that nitwit of a president did nothing to assure the safe evacuation of the poor people on that bus. He is directly responsible to make sure nothing like this ever could happen.

So, all of you are radical libertarians? Because the only way you could feel that Bush bears NO blame for NO is if you believe that the federal gov't has NO responsibility to help states during natural disasters.
The local gov't and the fed gov't both bear some responsibility. BOTH.
"Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job."
Asshat.

what i have said all along, but most idiots want to try and place some sort of cause and effect relationship to the problems in NO on the White House.

So if you feel the president DOES bear some blame, why the sarcasm in the first post?

| CB, I don't think that's it. I think everybody knows where the blame falls first. Not on the president. But on the Mayor, then the governor and lastly President. But as far as I know, the only person that has accepted responsibility is the President. Wow, the fish always stinks from the head back, but the head (nagin) ain't sayin nuttin. I don't think they meant that they don't blame the federal gov't or Bush at all.

They say that something as small as a butterfly beating its wings in China can cause a hurricane in America.
So why the #@%$ didn't Bush send troops over to China to kill all the butterflies?

| How come so many Repubs will praise Bush for nearly anything positive that happens but when something doesn't go quite right(Iraq and WMD, NO and Katrina) they're the first to shift blame to somewhere else(bad intell, local and state government respectively).

microman,
local govt is responsible period. I agree with you.
that mayor from N.O. is Stanley for sure and so is the governor
but he is still the leader of the country and he oversees all local and fed govt.
I wish we had a great political system like canada its so flawless

True, but most of these people wouldn't dare admit a single thing Bush has done wrong in public, well except not putting prayer back in school and overturning Roe v. Wade of course.
For a federal government to be beyond criticism by a good percentage of it's population must be wonderful.

microman, I get sick of it as well. People start off with such a closed mind. I get sick of hearing "It's all Bush's fault" or "It's not at all Bush's fault." When he's partly at fault for sure. Particularly in his delegation. Incompetence. The government failed all the way from the local to the national level. Every once in a while I'll talk to someone who really has an open view on issues and it's so refreshing.

Exactly Wakebrad, and to be clear I wasn't necessarily pointing my finger at anyone here. But it's impossible to have discussion when both sides are just repeating talking points.
Personally, on other forums anyway, I have no interest in reading the rantings of left wing nuts anymore than I do the right wing ones.

I never said there wasn't a lot of criticism directed toward Bush, I said that a certain portion of the population seems to think there is something wrong with questioning the federal government, particularly in times where the government should be scrutinized the most.

well, here in the US we call that a democracy or if your anal an elected republic,
people are very open all the time, we need to support the govt at times but its always quesitoned,
i am not sure where you are going with this, people are very vocal on both sides all the time
and some people are so stupid they can not even fill out a ballot properly

I hate that as soon as a natural disaster hits, we have to "find someone to blame". Why don't we say it's not important because Bush nor the local/state government conjured a hurricane and sent it to NO, and just help the people who were effected by the hurricane. I am aware that it is mostly the media who creates the hysteria of the blame game, but we can at least show our distaste for it.
Instead of instantly dismissing my point to come back with a structured arguement about how it's too simple or something, just think about it...

| My thoughts on blame(from another thread) wrote: | The blame should be spread among every local, state, and federal agency that has even the smallest part in the prevention of, or response to, a disaster such as this one.
The blame should be spread among the people that had the ability and resources to get out of the area, but failed to listen to the experts that said "get out" over and over.
The blame should be spread among the able-bodied, healthy people that were stealing TV's and beer, instead of helping their dying neighbors.
The blame should be spread among people that could have been in Katrina's path(like me), yet fail to give anything to the relief efforts without understanding that could've just as easily been them.
Is there blame to go around? Yes. Is there one place it should fall? No.
Do I recognize that this is my opinion and that I may've left out other people, on which the blame should fall? Yes.

| Some of you are so gay. Nobody said it wasn't partly the fed. gov's part. Get it through your thick skulls. Hell they are the only people of this nation that have owned up to it. Open your closed eyes. Shiyyyyyyaaaaaaaaaaaaat!!! Microman, it's people like you, that are fueling an unnecessary fire against President Bush. He oversee's a country, he doesn't supervise every association, every department, every act, every stoplight, every bus driver, every everything. Do you want him to feed your stinkin dog too? And when that dog doesn't get fed on time.....and barks.....it's his gd fault? Hell my responsibilities are just that, I feed my dogs and my wife and child, i pay my bills, I run my small company. I don't run the government, nor could I. You could though eh? run the teachers of america, make decisions on stem cells and abortion, have your hand in new laws, deal with 9/11, deal with katrina and rita, yet while doing so, balance the nation on your other shoulder. Make decisions about Iraq and afghanistan sp?? At the same time deal with N. Korea and Iran. Do you think these are just yes and no questions he deals with? It's just so gd easy to point a finger and blame, isn't it? Much easier than just admitting that he is under extraordinary stress. Oh no, he can just take a vacation and make it all go away eh? Geez, you all sound more immature every time I come here.
