Has anyone noticed that it has become a CAT 5...
Take a look at the storm now:
Projected track:
Satellite imagery:
This is one hell of a storm. Looks like it's gonna hit south of Houston/Galveston.
No bueno....... _________________

I'm stocking up on, Gas, Beer, Water, and canned food tonight. It's supposed to still be a CAT 1 when it hits Dallas.
We're already planning a hurricane party at my buddies place who has a kegerator. If the power goes off we're going to have to polish that thing off before it goes bad _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

Not that I've been following the history of Hurricanes, but WOW..... _________________
8824, dude - I suck. You were right.
. |

| My Pops lives in Corpus Christi about 1/2 mile from the beach on Padre Island...about 8 feet above sea level....talked to him this morning as windows on the house were being boarded up. Mom and little bro and leaving town tonight for Dallas, while Pops is staying because he's a volunteer Fire Frighter.....keeping my fingers crossed on this end to say the least. |

Dpierce37, looking at that track, it looks like it's going to hit closer to CC, then head inland right towards Austin.
Might still be pretty bad by the time it gets there. I would go early Friday if you can, just batton down the hatches in Austin before you leave. _________________

Dpierce37, thanks man!
....you know the area. My house there is right near the entrance to Bob Hall pier. Right on the boat canals....I hope the sand dunes hold up this time around. Pops owns a bunch of houses in town as well, so he's got his work cut out for him doing all of the boarding up and such. |

I would never own a house on a barrier Island...I've almost been stuck on Padre once (before the causeway was built). We were out surfing with a big storm coming, so the waves were huge, then it rained like I have never seen and the storm pushed the water over the old causeway...good thing I was in my friends 4x4...about a foot of water on the causeway with waves slapping the side of the truck... good thing they have the new one up!.
Speaking of...we were at Bob Hall pier too! HAHA _________________

Wakebrad, Still a CAT 1 when it hits Dallas! Wow, that doesn't even include all of the tornadoes that will spin up from the lingering storms before and after. Those tornadoes will easily go up to Nebraska. |

K-Dub --
Best of luck to your dad. I hope he just doesnt underestimate like so many people did with Katrina. Its suppose to "weaken" to a cat 3. But its just like getting hit by a Truck or hit by an Xb, either way your PHkud. _________________ www.integrity-wake.com

Austin is gotta get nailed on this one. Props to anyone who goes wakeboarding on Lake Austin when the hurricane rolls into town. Heck, fly me down there, and I'll film it.

wow.... a cat 5?! The Gulf is brewing some mean a*$ storms this year... Id get out of the coast and get my happy butt inland. Good luck to all those affected.
And we thought florida had it bad last year due to multiple hits... the gulf coast arent getting many hits but they're getting 1 solid one after the other. |

With all due respect to Hurricane victims, and the fact that it will only be a Cat 1 when it hits here at most, Bring It Rita. They are predicting 60+ mph winds up here, I've put everything inside, now just gotta pray the boat is safe in it's outdoor storage. _________________ www.Tigeowners.com

Little off topic, but not really...
K-dub,
Did you grow up surfing Corpus? Spent more sessions than I can count at Bob Hall. Going to be some good swell starting to filter in in the next 48 hours up and down the coast. It's not going to be pretty when it hits the barriers though...
Best of luck to your dad. We had a family property in Rockport until recently. It went through some serious storms down there too. But it was also on stilts so even though it flooded with storm surge, it usually faired pretty well. Never went through CAT 5 though. That's for sure. |

Texasguy......whose drilling rigs do you work on? I work exclusively with Ensco Offshore.
And to think......of all the weekends for PChick to come to Texas to come and ride our "buttery smooth" water.......she picks this one!

oshensurfer, yup Bob Hall was my spot. I spent more time there in High School than I actually did in school. I was just checking the web cam at Bob Hall a little while ago. Looks a bit flat, but i'm sure by tomorrow it'll be firing.
My dad's house is kinda on stilts. The only thing on the first floor is garage, all enclosed, but built on stilts....the living area is all 20 feet above ground. But as you said, it's never been through a Cat. 5 storm, only smaller doses, so we'll see..... |
