Come on???? I'm as big of a supporter of this war as anyone, but I seriously think this is Ri-Dic-U-lous.... what a waste of time and money.

I agree with the decision. I am sick and tired of celebrities using their public platform to criticize. Most of them are uninformed, and make comments that steer the publics view in their uninformed direction. Why would the baseball hall of fame spend money on a celebration of the actors if they don't agree with their position on world events. Its the same as when radio stations stopped playing Dixie Chicks music after they made anti-Bush comments.

What do you mean by "what a waste of time and money?" It seems to me that they're saving money by stopping the festivities and that they don't want to waste their time on ungrateful actors who don't realize that they have their freedom because of our government and military.

I agree with Zach, but Cooperstown is a little chicken $hit giving the letter to the associated press before letting him know he wasn't invited.

When did the Hall of Fame become a political entity? His anti-war stance should not be an issue.

I guess this Petroskey guy is a self-proclaimed expert on military affairs. What a joke.

I guess you can irreparably damage baseball's reputation by betting on your own team, AND THEN LYING ABOUT IT, but you better not exercise your right to free speech.

Oh good, I found a new reason to dislike baseball! Smile

I think it's funny that you mentioned "freedom" in you post because I find it very interesting in how we are fighting for people's freedoms over in Iraq, and yet some of these very freedoms are being denied in this situation. How is someone "ungrateful" just because they disagree?

Swass - The hall of fame may not be a political entity, but baseball is rooted deep in American tradition. The hall of fame is respecting the name of baseball by not supporting people who are making anti-govt, anti-american, or anti-bush comments. Also, I don't remember a time where people got away with betting on their own team. I may be wrong, but the people who were caught were punished.

Jello John - The actors freedoms are not being denied. They have all the same rights that they used to. They exercised their right to free speech. Just because you can say whatever you want doesn't mean that you won't recieve consequences for your words. Having their party cancelled is a consequence for making the statements that they did.

The point was to celebrate how great the movie was about baseball. I think they took it overboard by making this political. Movies are movies and baseball is baseball. This happened to be a time when the 2 got together and it worked out. No reason to cancel a celebration for a movie made some time ago for events that inspired the actors to have idea's now.

Why would you disagree, they have the right to free speech with out reprizels. They are setting themselves for a lawsuit. There should not be ANY consequences for free speech.
