boat weight restriction

hey guys my boat has that yellow sticker that says 1200 lbs limit. my question is if i put a 500 lb fat sac on it will i still be ok if i have over 1200 lbs of people and stuff on the boat? also its a 21 ft. i/o open bow maxum, where is the best place to put the fat sac?

it's just a recommendation. There is no actual coast guard limit on any boat over 20 ft. You'll be fine with a couple sacks. Before I got my current boat we used to have two fat sacs in my folks 20 ft Bayliner. no problems other then planning out. Move the sac around to see where the wake is best. most likely in the rear though. Most people on this site run way over the recommended weight. I have over double it in ballast alone.

well im hearing from some people that putting the ballast in the front or in the ski locker is best, please anyone else that can recommend anything. but sperbet you are right i should just move it around to see where it works best im just afraid if i put it in the rear then i wont be able to plane the boat and it will be hard for the driver to see

if that happens, empty it, move it and the refill it. No one here is going to no the perfect weight configuration for your Maxum, as most on this site ride behind inboards. It will take some trial an error.

I have a 21' also and run a 550# in the locker and another on the floor against the rear seat. If your over the weight limit, make some of your passengers sit in their vests in the water till its their turn..... Laughing

Forget the fat sac! Just get yourself some tupperware bins, manually fill them up with water (two people usually) and place them where ever you want. Don't forget LIDS!!!

not a bad idea. Some other dude had a post on using the soft-serve bags from DQ as fat sacs. That might be cheaper Laughing
