I was thinking of running a small stereo off of a motorcycle or other smaller battery. All i will be running is the revieever and 2 speakers not power by an amp or anything like that. What battery should i get for this if it is possible?

If thats ALL you ever plan to run, then a standard inexpensive 12v battery will work. I thought the same thing in the beginning- I now have 2 high power amps, 2 subs and 6 speakers. For right now I have a high amp rv type battery running thru an isolater. When the batteries die Ill replace them w/ blue tops probably.

If youre going to do that, you might as well just run your stereo off the main boat battery, no need for the second punny battey. Not gaining or losing anything but space and time.

~ok just noticed your boat, yeah you'd be okay with doing that.. You'll just have to make sure it's charged when heading out to the waters, or get a small solar panel so it trickle charges it when not being used.

Good idea. How well do those things work? I've seen 'em at west marine.

I still think you should just get a portable boombox. You could hook it up to a car battery also to save on batteries and get a longer play life. Just get gator clips and a cigarette lighter plug. It would save you from having to buy or make a housing for your receiver and the speakers.

You're going to want a "deep cycle" battery. They are designed to withstand a full drain and recharge where a "starting" battery can actually go bad if you drain it.
