|
|
| I started wakeboarding this month and I am hooked. I learned to get up on a real wide board, not sure of the brand and recently I have been using a CWB older board maybe a 00' phantom. It is kind of thin compared to the other board with a sharp beveled edge and a squared off front. The old board was easier to learn on but the bindings were falling apart. I have been learning edging, going over the wake using my edge, doing frontside 180 surface tricks and riding switch. I want to get a new board and bindings for $300-500. I was looking at liquid force transit and alpha bindings, and then maybe a hyperlite motive for a board. Is that a good setup? I want a board where i can edge very well and feel stable on. I also like doing the surface tricks. Can I buy an intermediate or advanced board to learn on? If I can what boards do you recommend? |

hey jrhenry24, welcome to the boards. a good thing to use when picking a board is the baordfinder here on our homepage. http://www.boardstop.com/boardfinder.php?ref=14
predtty much all the boards, with the exception of the hyperlite roam, are good and stable on their edge. surface tricks are something you should grow out of soon:p. after the first or second hard faceplants, you will know kinda not to do them. but if you wish, then go for it. you can learn on any kind of board, just an expert board will be more technical and have more pop wich will throw you into the air higher. if you have the oppurtunity to demo boards, than that is a good way to choose the right board for you, if not, you can always go back to the baordfinder. for 3-5 c-notes, you should be able to get a pretty good board.
if you got any more questions dont be afraid to ask, about anything.
hope this helped

| yeah ive already had a couple of those faceplants when i was trying at higher speeds, lol.....what boards would you personally recommend?? im 6' 180 lbs....i think i like the looser feel, but where you can edge hard if you need to...will i notice a difference between a 180 dollar board and a 250 dollar board in a year....like a motive to a substance for example....also what size board do i need? the ones ive had are 140s i believe.... thanks ken and anyone else who has input |

yea id take a 139 or a 140 in your situation. i dont think you would find that much in difference, yet i ahvent rode either of them before. i have a lF evo and its quite loose when it is neutral, but when you roll over on the edge, it hold pretty good. i would go with one of the boards that the finder said. the statte has some new tech. in it. it has a different toeside cut than a heelside because people tend to have a different edgining technique or something. so you might wanna look into that. and hten for bindings, id go with some nice lace bindings, like the LF sphynx or teams. the alphas also have good support ive heard.
that might have helped, im wathcing some extreme skiing so im coming back to this everynow and then so it might be a lil hard to interpretate. |

you could ride this board, but youd prolly wanna move onto a more advanced board in a year or two. the trip is the board i wanna get next, or the subjekt, and i have rode an evo, a beginner baord for 2 seasons, and wanna get a more advanced board, so you could ride the flight, and then upscale to one of those. where doy ou usually ride?? |

I have a 2005 CWB SOL 141 And love it so far. All of us are able to ride pretty easily. The heaviest in the group is 5'10 180ish and we use a 19.6' maxium with a 125 OB. Granted I'm just getting started but for $250 with bindings It seems like a good deal. Most others seem to agree.

| I'd reccomend the LF Evo 138 and Element bindings to any beginner. |

| You will start finding good deals on 2005 boards now that the 2006 boards are coming.. I think a board between 138 and 140 would work well for you.. It doesnt usually hurt to buy a board that is more advanced that you.. I recommend the 3DS and the Murray (Hyperlite).. Make sure to check out your local boardshop(s) if you have any |

| thanks for your help....i went out this weekend again and got to ride with someone who was pretty advanced for our area....he was landing way way out in the flats and doing consistent frontrolls and backrolls and almost landing mobes....hes been using different boards for like 9 years and he says stay away from liquid force boards, hes had three and all of them he broke by riding....he did all his stuff on a hyperlite motive and so since they are pretty cheap right now will go with that..theres no way ill be doing what he can do in the next two years so i wont outgrow it and plus he said it was sean murrays original pro board???.....he said he likes obriens too....those are sturdy, but something about the core in the liquid forces dont stand up to the beating....but man he was clearing the wakes way out there like ten to fifteen feet, so that probably had something to do with it....and i ride on a river near my town and also a small couple hundred yard lake about thirty miles from my house |
