Need something simple, preferably mounted in the dash in an empty guage place.
Any recommendations as to type, manufacturer and best prices?
Thanks |

Hummingbird - thru hull
Available at West Marine but better prices on ebay
I think I paid like $50 for mine during the winter on ebay. Easy to install... works great. _________________ Life is a series of ups and downs, separated by no-wake signs. |

I cannot recommend humminbird....I've had at least two different head units and two different through-hulls mounted in 4 different locatons...it works for a day or two and.....if I'm lucky...only reads 1.2 ft half the time.
Obviously ladythump has had a positive experience, but I've know of several people who have also had the same experience.
I'm not sure why this model has given me so much trouble as I've seen the HB fishfinders with the transducers that hang off the back of the boat work flawlessly for 20 years. |

Been happy with the Hummingbird TU so far (knock-on-wood). Had to pay $100 for it (middle season), but so far its been great. _________________ the2001.com |

| Lowrance makes a good finder also. We've had one for years. (at least 20) |

| Bought a Humminbird in dash depth finder for $100 from overtons with the in hull transducer and it works perfect. Just remember when mounting the transducer to the hull with the two part epoxy to make sure all the air bubbles are out cause it will screw up your reading. |

| Ditto the Humminbird. I installed one in my old Prostar, and it worked great. |

Im gonna have to shoot down the hummingbird as well. I installed one on my old boat (96 prostar 205) and it worked good. The only disadvantage of the unit was that in rough water, it did not register very well. At full throttle, alot of time it would read the same depth for quite a while, without fluctuation of reading.
In our new boat (01 xstar) It had a lowrance already installed, and this thing is ten times better. This unit will always be reading no matter how fast or water condition, and it reads to the tenth of a foot. It is a little pricy (this unit is around $180) but its well worth the extra 80 bucks. |
