1) know how to spell sponsor.
2) you are gonna have to be able to rip to get noticed.
3) get in with local reps.
4) send a video of your best riding to a company, and wait for a response. |

| i think you should sack up and post this in the main forum and wait for responses. Why do you have a "need" to be sponsored? I've been sponsored, it takes a lot of work, and you'll learn that when you aren't held down to one specific company, the sport can be way more fun |

Wakebrad, awesome article. I would assume that being on a university wake team would help too?... _________________ "I just want something more than to come home in my cool looking SUV, sit in my king sized leather recliner and watch reality television on my widescreen plasma TV...How easy it is to care for someone when you dont have anything else..." |

U don't generally need to be wicked awesome to get sponsored, but it does help . Just have a good attitude towards the sport and yeah. If you have a local skate shop like here send in a sponsor me video. I'm filming a sponsor me video this winter for snowboarding so yeah... Our skateshop has quite a few teams for Skateboarding, Snowboarding, Wakeboarding and so on. Good luck man! _________________

weston, you have 6 posts and all of them suck. You have not said anything worth while yet without being a dick to someone. I hope it changes soon or no one on this site will bother reading anything you type. _________________ Does this rag smell like chloroform?

In all honesty you don't have to be a great rider to be sponsored. Basically companies sponsor riders to wear or use their gear so that their market increases and more and more people are exposed to their products. Yes it helps if your a good rider and travel to a bunch of tournaments and do well, but also you can just be a grassroots rider who has good initiative and is a leader in their community willing to help push a companies product. Not that any of this pertains(sp) to you. _________________ www.soswakeboard.com

I too am working on this and have 2 local places as sponsors already... However, your big companies are going to need more than what has been mentioned. Your video should contain unedited footage, and should not be repative footage. I have spoke with a few reps at CWB, and they all tell me the same exact thing. "Just ride and have fun with it, if you are good enough we will find you!" To my suprise, I have maintained contact with them too. Now, I am not saying I am going to go pro anytime soon, but I hope to be there within 5 years. I think 13 years of riding should be a good start. People go out and land a few inverts, and think they have what it takes... Not only does a company like Hyperlite want to see you land things at a high percentage, they want to see you come up with your own tricks to boot. Let me ask this, I am not going to give you hell for your spelling like these other dickheads do, can you ride sliders well? Are you active in your community? Do you have a clean image that children can look up to?
If it means you have to go out and coach at wakeboard camps to help your image, then that is what you have to do. Dont give up and certainly dont continue with this if you arent sincere about your riding. The reps will see through your BS and will know how much time you put in.
If I could pick one sponsor though, knowing what I know now, I would def. hit up an oil company for the free gas!
The staff at Ten 80 are great people to deal with too...
Again, instead of picking apart your grammar, spelling, where you post this thread, or any other moot point, I truely wish you the best of luck! Work hard and it should happen! _________________

Wakebrad, Very very very good info there brother... I just read your link a second ago, and I really liked it. Next season, we should go ride. I am pretty busy with school right now, and holding 2 jobs down... Wakeboard camps locally, and the local golf shop I work out to pay for gas (cousin owns it)... Def keep in contact dude, I am only 100 miles south!
I have access to the SAN 210... So we wouldnt be throwing down on my towerless unweighted Sea Ray. Where abouts in Dallas do you live? I used to live in Lewisville about 10 years ago... _________________
