I am right handed and I have no troubles getting up wih my right foot in back but I cannot stay up long. I sway to the left, and as I get to the wake I swing my board horizontal again and fall. Someone told me my right foot should be in front. I just want to accomplish staying up more than 15 sec. HELP!

nikcad, That really has nothing to do with your staying up. Whichever way you ride normal, is determened upon which way you first came up. It wouldnt matter which way you came up, because you arent used to it either way. Just ride more and you will get it!

i have a video that says you should put your stronger foot in the front. If you're not sure which foot is your stronger foot then have someone nudge/push you behind and the foot you catch yourself with should be at the front. It really depends on what you're comfortable with though. Good luck.

i am right handed and i use my right foot in back also. control will just take time, it took me a few tries to get up and steady esp. when going over the wake...

i think that the stronger foot should be in back as that is the foot that does nearly all of the work.

Well i'm a messed up case. I didn't wanna say nuttin but i'm right handed, left footed, and ride w/my right foot back..Lol. I'm all messed up but i somewhat agree w/you..I guess it depends on what ur most comfortable with. Eventually you'll be riding switch so it won't matter as much as you progress but I know it does when you first start out.

Is it weird that when I'm carving out I almost only use my front foot. I put most of the pressurethere and i seem to get out farther.

Run and go like your going to slide across the floor in a wakeboard like stance.. that's most likely going to me your more comfortable stance Cool

I still believe that it is the way you first come up... Your body is going to work itself into the position where it is more blanced and comfortable on its own. It really has nothing to do with stronger foot, legs, etc. When it all boils down to it, again, it is going to be how your body reacts to something. Just imagine, someone throwing something at you and you trying to catch it; your domenant hand is going to make the first attempt at blocking slash catching the object. Like Smokinheels07 stated, that if someone pushes you, your dominant leg is going to be used to catch your balance. However, this does not always correspond with wakeboarding. Trust me, if you are getting up regular, (left foot forward), then this is how your body has responded and adapted to the newness of wakeboarding through balance.

well a wakeboarding stance usually has more weight to the back, and if your only using your front foot that would put to much wight in front, but im surprised you get out farther...

i really dig my back foot in deep.... i just like the way it feels

Dude this is foolproof! Get someone to push you and whichever foot goes forward first stays forward when you ride Wink

OR, whichever foot you feel most balanced standing one-legged on goes in the back.

Try both and see what you think Razz

All this other stuff may help you but really it's all about how you feel. I ride Goofy (right foot in front) on my wakeboard and I ride regular (left foot forward) on my skateboard. Makes no sense but that's what feels comfortable to me.

I had the same problem when i first started about drifting. this is how i fixed it. As soon as you get up, try to pull the handle to your front hip. this will force you to straighten out. once you get a feel for it, relax and find what position is comfortable. I believe the correct position is at your hip line. as far as what foot is forward, everyone is different. its what ever is comfortable. My first time, they made me stand on a skateboard first to see what was more comfortable. i am right handed and right left foot front. hope this helps any.

when you put ur trousers on, whichever leg goes in 1st is the foot you put at the front, but try getting up both ways and see which you are most comfortable, eventually you have to be able to ride both ways round for switch riding

Ok look, to clear up a lot of confusion, your strong leg usually goes in back. Your front foot is not supposed to be the stronger one. Try sliding on the kitchen floor with your socks. Whichever way you slide, thats the way you go. When in doubt, think of which leg you kick with. Left kicking= goofy, or right foot in front, right kicking= regular, or left in front.

wow. i didnt realize there were this many theories. when i first started skateboarding, i just started riding regular footed. and never thought twice about it. it just felt so natural. thats also how i ride my snowboard, and wakeboard. ive had a friend who didnt know what foot should go first, so while he was just standing there, i pushed him. and told him that the foot he caught himself with is what goes forward. thats how snowboard instructors do it, or at least last time i checked. im sure some kid has fallen, and theres some lawsuit prohibiting this cruel technique, lol.

if you relly are stumped, then just try both ways. one way will (normally) be noticeably more difficult. its wierd. i keep telling myself im gonna try and get up switch when we go ride, but i always forget. or just dont wanna waste the boats gas, lol.

Wow you guys are great!!! This weekend I'm gonna give it a try again. I did try to switch it and put my right foot in front but it just seemed really hard to even attempt to get up. So I put it back my original way and out of the water I came, right foot in back. I like the idea of jumpin to see how you land. I see a little adjustment there. Let you know how it goes. THANKS!!

I knew what foot to put in front just because i snowboard. But i remember on my board i just did what felt better. But now i can ride both ways still a better rider regular though. I did do the push thing on my friends though. It worked for both of them.

thats funny i did the same thing last weekend-i got up and only could turn left, and couldnt turn right....
well when that happened to me i went as far left as i could go and then fell, and got back up only to do the exact same thing

i finally turned my board all the way parallel to the boat(jetski at the time) and started goin straight n good

it might take a lil time to get it right but it will come - if i can do it, you definetly can Crying or Very sad Wink

theres no right or wrong way of witch foot you wont in front. the best way i know of is to stand up straight legs shoulder length apart while looking at your buddie. let you friend give you a good push and witchever foot you have behind you is the one you should have in back. also when your getting up , your dominate foot stance will swing you witch ever way you should ride.

Here's kind of an off topic/stupid question. Are all of the new boards completely symetric? Meaning could you mount the bindings one way on the board and that be good for both goofy and reg.? It would just put a different end at the front. Of course this wounldn't fly if you run a fin on one end or the other.

The snowboard instructor I had said that you should just kick someone in the ass. Whichever foot you kick that person with should go in the back.

Another thing you can do is kinda like what Colefooter mentioned...
Run and slide across your floor in socks, whichever foot you have in the front is probably the one you would want in front while wakeboarding.
Really though, do waht feels best for you..
Good luck!!
