|
|
I am new to wakeboarding and I have learned to cut HL TS etc. However when I attempt to jump the wake in a progressive edge. I make the jump then when I hit the water, I catch my edge causing me to face plant which hurts like ***. How do I avoid catching an edge upon landing, I see lots of info on how to jump but little on landing properly. Is the fact that I am over 6 ft tall and 250 lbs. a factor, Im using the largest board that Hyperlite makes. _________________ 05' Sea Ray 200 I/O, Bravo 3, Tower

No...
First make shure you're using a non stretch rope. Next when you take off keep that handle right into your front hip. When you land also land edging away from the boat, this will keep you from face planting. Last but not least, check your body position, is your chest out, back straight? Remember you take off like you land, so you want to take off on edge with good body position. _________________ wakeboards

Yes sir... It also sounds to me as though when you are standing up, your are leaning forward a tad bit and letting your hands get away from your body, hip in particular. Do you have a vid or atleast a pic so we can observe you at the crest of the wake?
Remember, if there is no tention in line when you take off, there shouldnt be much of any when you land. Naturally, this could be determined by the driver as well. I have friends who think it is funny to slow down while I am in the air, just to watch the crash. I dont know about you, but a raley to face plant hurts a bit more than a simple wake 2 wake. I am not bringing this on me at all, but the point is the driver needs to keep the boat constant. _________________

Yeah, I think Im leaning forward too much and the handle is getting away from me. However, I thought I am supposed to have constant line tention from take off to landing. When I bring the handle to my hips will the rope slacken or become more taught while Im in the air. I plan on practicing my jumps this weekend so any other advise will be helpful. _________________ 05' Sea Ray 200 I/O, Bravo 3, Tower

rope should be at your hips well before you hit the wake and all the way through to keep you straight. |

Thanks everyone for your advice. I was able to successfully land my HL jumps without face planting this weekend. Next week Im going to shorten the rope a bit and try a wake to wake. One problem though; sometimes when I try to land on edge, I end up falling backward and landing on my butt. I am assuming I should try to ease up on my edge at landing; but I dont think it would be a good idea to try to land flat cause that is what caused me to face plant before. Any suggestions? _________________ 05' Sea Ray 200 I/O, Bravo 3, Tower

sacbrdr1, I don't really think about landing on edge, it just kind of happens. Just make sure that you don't flatten out at the top of the wake and that will: 1. Make you go higher and farther, and 2. usually help you land on edge. Like dragon said, you land how you take off.
BTW, for future reference, heelside is HS, not HL. I'm just helping you out |

You want to keep your edge after you land. All you have to do is not increase it. Once you start landing wake to wakes this won't be an issue anymore cause the landing is so smooth it'll just happen naturally... _________________ If the minimum wasn't acceptable it wouldn't be called the minimum. |
