As I progessivly get better on the water cutting heel and toe side...is there a point that I am going to want to take the fins off? Or is that only for when you hit the rails.
I am thinking I might need to keep them on till after I am confident on going w2w. |

| u should prolly leave them on at least until u go w2w. some more experienced riders prefer the loose feel of finless and they are confident with being able to edge in progressively w/o the help of fins. so when u feel you really have good technique u could take em off. otherwise its not a great idea but u could def. still ride. |

I have a board that has no fins at all (because I took them off) and we use it as a trainer for form. It will ensure correct edging _________________ "The best we can hope for concerning the people at large is that they be properly armed."

| I rode my board with fins for about the first month and then i decided to take them off and I rode like that for a few weeks to practice my edging technique and my surface tricks. I have the fins back on now and my edging is much better. I would suggest taking them off when you learn to do a few basic things before you start going w2w to get the correct edging techniques. My friends always rode with theirs on and when they started trying w2w, they were trying to just point the board toward the wake and not really dig in and get a good edge.... I still can't go wake to wake behind a boat because I guess I'm just a pansy, but I can get about 2-3 feet of air(legs not bent) and land on the top of the wake behind a small waverunner with only 1 person on it and a 70 foot rope. I have correct form and probably could do it behind a boat, I've just yet to get the balls to do it, lol. To sum up, yes, I think you should take your fins off as soon as you get up and get comfortable with fins so you will have correct edging. |
