| I've been having problems getting any air on my backroll attempts. I seem to slide my board out to start the rotation meanwhile getting no pop. I come 90% of the way around and can tell I'm 2 feet off the water. Please help. |

| make sure you stand tall through the wake and don't start flipping until your airborn. your most likely flipping right off the wake. |

| to add on to what wakeboardertj said, sometimes it can help to take a faster approach when you are learning- which almost forces you to get the full pop off the wake. Sometimes its fun to just take a raley cut in, and then you dont even worry about not getting enough air. Good luck |

| take a nice big cut out, then start your cut really slow, about 10-15 feet from the wake cut as hard as you can, once you hit the top of the wake, lean back put your chin to your shoulder and lift your front knee up, this will get you rotating properly and this gives you the most pop. |

Wait folks! You guys are gonna kill him with these big cuts. I had this problem back in the day, too. The harder you cut, the less air you are gonna get. A backroll is done best with a slow, progressive edge. Your main goal should be to make the rope very tight, especially when you are closest to the wake. Focus on edging slowly, and all the way through the wake. CUTTING HARD IS BAD when you are learning this trick. _________________ www.ten-80.com |

wakedude83,
Deffinately agree, a slow progressive edge is essential for backroll _________________ Snowwaker168 |

| amen! when i first was learning them the hard cut is what made it nearly impossible. just wrry about making your nice smooth progressive cut and be sure to stand tall and then initiate your rotation. |

I agree wit the slow progressive cut....though i have yet to land a backroll i have tried both ways and I got way more pop taking a nice controlled edge with maximum tension....(I only figured this out two weeks ago, but when I did do it correctly I landed hard and ackward without the handle and I sprained my knee so I haven't been able to try again, but I plan on throwing some more this week) _________________ |

slow does seem to be better. Although I haven't been landing many lately. My problem is my head is maybe 5ft off the water but i'm landing right before the next wake causing the board to start spinning back up again when i hit the water. Anyways, i seem to do my best rotation when I come in from at most 7-10ft away from the wake. _________________ You stand on the shore and look out over the horizon.

Assuming you're not just coming off edge and throwing the trick to early the following might help in my experience!
I've seen people struggle for height on this trick despite holding a big locked edge. What sorted them out was to keep the same edge but approach the wake a bit more seated. This allowed them to get a good pop at the wake by standing tall at the last second (but still holding edge!) good pop and good edge = good height = lots time to finish that rotation! _________________ Hasta la victoria siempre |

Another thing to look at....
I have seen many people with the perfect approach and edge into the wake only to loose it all by letting the handle out when they release off the wake.
You need to keep the handle in tight so you can use it to control your rotation on the way down. Letting out to slow down pulling it in to get your feet under you faster. _________________ PEACE

I have a separate question about the backroll, rather thank making another thread...
On the trick tips section of this site, it says to "look over your front shoulder to initate the rotation". For some reason this doesn't make sense to me....I was thinking about it, and everytime I imagined it, I felt like I was ready to do a frontroll, not a backroll. Can anyone explain what this means? I'm thinking about trying a backroll soon. _________________ Liquid Force 2004 Evo 138 - Liquid Force Alpha 2005 |
