PostPosted: Jul 27, 2005 7:34 pm    Post subject: indecissive...PREMIER or ERA?! Reply with quote

i'm about to invest in my own board. i'm a female, 5'7 and about 135 lbs. Its always difficult to use a different board everytime I go out with one of my friends, most of the time I am stuck with a guys board, typically around the 140 (cm) range.

I rode my friends 132 syn (the female verison of the ERA) and it was quite a nice change, yet she has been riding for about eight years and this is technically my first season.

I don't have any desire to get a beginners board because I want a board that will last, I don't mind if I don't look too graceful right off the bat. My ability level is pretty decent for how much I've been out. Basically right now though all i can do is carve, jump, and I just figured out the whole catching an edge thing in order to jump better thing.

The boards I am looking at are the Premier (130) and Era (132). I heard the Premier is slower at an edge hold, I was just wondering how slow if anyone knew, I'm sure its not too bad. Also control wise, since I am a beginner what would be a little more forgiving for me, but something that I can definately use 2 or three seaons from now. Basically I am looking for any more information/tips/advice besides the copy and pasted infor from Hyperlite. anything would help. thanks soo sooo soo much!

-note: i am getting 2005 byerly bindings

I ride the 2005 hyperlite premier 130 and it is the best board i have had and today i went and bought the same exact board because i loved it so much..i have ridden the era and it isnt bad at all but if you are a boat rider you will love the premier...on the other hand if you ride cable it isnt as good but still an excellent board! good luck

hmm....thanks, i was just curious about the comparison cus i know the era is pretty good at staying well on top of the water and i was wondering how the premier compares to that aspect. im pretty sure i ride boat, but i really don't know the difference (being my first season and all) the boat i usually go out behind is a 2003 malibu if that helps. but once again thankyou!

mizk87, is it possible to demo boards in your area? If so, thats what you need to do.

And w4k3b04rd3r57 is talking about cable riding... where you need lots of pop, you don't really have to worry about that since you ride behind a boat.

yeup, i demoed the 137 era. the guy there said he would definately not want me on a 137, and that he would put me on the 132 (willl 5cm really matter? cus i dislike the 132s design and love the 137s). I can't exactly demo the premier, however i could buy it and return it if i didn't like it as long as it was in mint condition. THe reason i was trying to get some more advice is because i can get a killer deal on the 132 era on ebay right now, and i won't be able to test the premier before the auction ends. thanks all!

You can buy a blank board if you want... with absolutly no graphics at all.... its even cheaper!!

Did you like the era? If you liked it, go for it... and ya, 5cm will make a difference... its all about displacement.

mizk87, any thoughts to brands other than Hyperlite?????

There are offerings from LF, CWB, Obrien, and others that might suit you better. I suggest you demo more before choosing.

I would also suggest looking at other bindings...

i checked into some obrien boards, i may have to go back and see if i can demo those. bindings wise, i tried on a good ten or so at the store and since i have a wide foot, the byerly was the only one that didn't have any pressure points at all and felt quite nice.
