| this is probably a stupid question but my mom just brought a 1998 maxim 21 ft V8 mercruiser boat. is it possible to do a w2w jump with this boat with no special wake gear (pylon, rack, sacks)? |

yeh u can just cut hard as u can and edge all the way through the wake and ull make it (it can take awhile to learn) _________________ Chris |

Of course it is. W2W does not require a huge wake. _________________ PS- this is what part of the alphabet would look like if Q and R were eliminated.

yes but your better of buying one unless ou have right tools and supplies and no what your doing there very safe

| I have a 2000 Maxum with a V8 and finally went W2W on it last weekend!!! Just learn all the basics and you'll be able to do it on this boat. The wake is wider than on a wakeboard boat and adding a tower or pylon defintely helps. |

You may already know this but I just learned this a couple of months ago. Make sure once you plane off to trim up about a quarter or so. The wake firms up so much its unbelievable. I have a Coblat 246 I/O and I can clear the wake probably three feet now. It help big time when I pulled the trim up a tad. Of course finding a more experienced rider helped as well. _________________ Holly Bay All The Way! |

| That's exactly what we do to shape the wake up...about a quarter trim once we plane...works pretty well! |

i ride behind a 1979 trisonic, 19ft i think with no tower or sacks and i've cleared the wake by four feet before, its all in the technique  |

I just built my own pylon for my 85 bayliner last night. $30 at the local Home Depot got me all the supplies. ( I already had the 1200 lbs. rachet straps )
Took me about 30 minutes to build, mostly drilling the pass thru holes for the carriage and eye bolts. My friend and I set it up and just too make sure it would pass the test started out the heaviest person we know who wakbrds (211 Lbs) the thing is ugly as h*ll but works unbelievably well. The wake on my boat at 70' is about 30 ft wide, my first session out last night I only missed clearing the wake by half a board length. It was an amzing difference. I know many people can clear the wake with good technique but i am new to this (this season) and i have never even come close to clearing the wake on my boat. If you are gonna DIY a pylon search the forum and look at all the info. it makes it alot easier to figure out how to set up for your own boat, I didn't have to poke any holes in the boat with my setup so it made me alot happier. you can definately w2w off it. i know ppl who can easily go w2w off a waverunner _________________ If your supposed to expect the unexpected, then the unexpected would be expected, so there wouldnt be any unexpected to expect... |

Proper technique will get you enough air and distance for most triks. The more advanced may be a bit harder as you will nit get any help from fancy gear but you can progress real far on an i/o.
THEN you start modifying the boat - prop, weight, tower... and you wil have a new wake and settup...

| uhh def. don't worry about that for now. but for wakeboarding a prop with a low pitch works better. its really complicated but if you really want me to take the time to explain it i will but i cant guarantee u'll understand it. but you should really just focus on getting better and learning new stuff. but when you wanna start to modify your boat the prop is the last thing you should change(if at all) so just get a pylon/tower and some fat sacs, but til then just keep practicing. |

I agree with jmac2173, the prop is not very important. However more blades will usually help with acceleration but take of top speed. More blades may even help you maintain speed, if you get a pitch which gives you an RPM in you max torque range at wakeboarding speeds... First technique, then add some weight in the front of the I/O, then pylon/tower...

| bottomline, if you decide to buy a new prop(which isnt very smart b/c of potential problems such as damage to the engine or cavitation) you would buy a prop with four or five blades and with a pitch that at top speed produces that maximum amount of RPMs within the recommended range of the engine manufacturer. although what KristianB, said is right do not try to determine what pitch of prop to buy at wakeboarding speeds b/c the engine manufacturer only gives you a range of acceptable RPMs at full throttle. again i do not reccomend doing this. even though all this stuff u might get could help you, you'll only get better thru alot of practice. |
