definitely not. you can make any boat better for wakeboarding, but it may not ever be as good as a nautique. just have with what you got and what you can afford.

I ride behind my 19' spectrum which is really a fishing boat but it is making it's transformation into a wake boat...(till i can afford a good one).......i too am researching pylons and will probably mount one b-4 the season is out. so go for it dude and wake till yer bones ache!!!!!!!!

i have the same problem.... my tank is right in the middle of the boat. I think i am going to to mount my pylon on a deck that i have right in front of my transom. i will have to try to find a longer front cable but, hey the air is sweeter about 7' off of the water(so I hear) so lemmy know what u come up with. we may be able to trade some ideas.....

My gas tank is in the same spot, the plate has short screws. I ended up getting a base much shorter then the diagram. You don't need big screws it doesn't support any weight. It just keeps it in place. You won't even come close to touching the tank, the plate sits on the floor

You dont even need it screwed into the boat. Screw the ring down into a 2' x 2' carpeted piece of plywood. The tension of the hold down lines will keep the base from moving anywhere. Mine is like that and works quite well.

agree w/ Guitsboy. It's always good if you don't have to screw anything into the boat. Very Happy
not to change/steal a thread but Guitsboy, does your base move around a little? couple inches either way...?

No movement that Im aware of. And we've got some pretty big guys riding too. Im 6'2 210, and i ride with a couple guys bigger than me. The eye hooks for all the hold down lines are within 4" or so of the tow point, so a 200# guy pulling the rope only has 4" of leverage on a 7' pylon (ratio is 1:20). That means theres exactly 10# of lateral pressure on the base, which is easily held by simple friction thanks to all the downforce from the straps. Now, im not sure how much actual tension a 200 pound dude can put on a line, but the base will only see a maximum lateral force of one twentieth of the rope tension. If the eyelets were a foot below the tow point of a 7' pylon, the base could see 1/6th the tension of the rope, which is much greater. Keep the eyelets up as high as possible for best results.

Hope this helps.

Edit: The base dosnt move, however the top does indeed sway a couple inches depending on the rider and how tight the straps are...

GuitsBoy,
Definately helped. First time out the base was moving about an inch on really hard progressive edges from some bigger guys. last night modified the single strap up front to 2 straps one to each cleat. tightend it down good and whammo zero movement at all. not even swaying at the top. I think running the 2 straps to the front helped with the sway on the pole. Thanks for your help.

The ratio crap has to do wit applied force. The closer the hold-down eyehooks are to the actual tow point, the less leverage it has, which means the more likely everything will stay in place.
