grabs

ok been wakeboarding since spring beeen doing surface tricks mainly and some TS 180's. recently on my x-star i decided to go bawls out and just jump the wake. well it really wasnt hard at all got it my first time. now im wondering about grabs. whats the technigue (if any) to do it? i can get my knees to my chest but im just wondering if theres anything important i should know b4 i do one?

Ok well first off.. don't grab tindy. That's just gay. If you can bring your knees to your chest you should be fine, there isn't a whole lot of technique to it.. Practice landing with one hand a few times then go for the grab. I would start with either a tail grab or a indy grab, they seem the easiest to me.

stay away from tindy and tailsifh and you'll do fine...slob is accpetable, but just do mute...

ummm, this might be a newb question, but what is tindy? I know what indy is, but I've heard several people say tindy is gay, just wondering what it is and why its gay. thanks

this is not confirmed, but i'm guessing it's an indy/tail grab - colefooter, said don't grab tindy, and his diagram says dont grab between the indy/tail spots, so i just put two and two together Mr. Green

that diagram rocks btw, helps me understand what crail and nuclear are. anyone have tips for how to do a nuclear grab? i'm lookin to mix it up with my grabs, going big with a solid grab looks a lot cooler than some sloppy spin or flip to me.

the only reason people say not to grab tindy, (which is in between indy and tail, good observation) is because its such a natural grab and so easy. You can grab there if you want, people will just say its a lame grab.

generally tindy it's known as a weak grab because it's the most natural, least skilled required grab. You just suck up your knees and stick your back hand down.

I would recomend going for the indy. I find it the easiest. It feels awkward at first but you just got to do it.

And I think slob is more stylish than mute and in a poll more people agreed.

What about seatbelt? Does that exist? Isn't it grabbing behind rear foot with lead hand? or maybe its grabbing tail with lead hand?

ya, roast beefs are sweet. bhamglassman, i believe that it becomes easier to grab nuclear if you do a glide or throw it in with a flip or some sort.

DONT GRAB TINDY BECAUSE ITS LAZY. you wanna grab tail...grab it...you wanna grab indy...grab it. No need to grab inbetween. and if you do it better be wteaked beyond belief...and you'll still get flamed...Ya'll can grab it if you want...but as for me...you'll never see me grab and tindy or tailfish...

Here are a few more difficult grabs. This is for a left foot forwards rider. The board is moving from right to left.

1.) Chicken Salad- Front hand through legs on toeside edge
2.) Roast Beef- Back hand through the legs on heelside edge
3.)Method-Front hand in between nose and melan(choly)
4.)Seatbelt-Back hand nose grab
5.) The un named grab- reverse seatbelt (front hand tail grab) I think its time the wakeboarding community names this trick instead of calling it the "reverse seatbelt." If you have an idea throw it in the pot. Maybe first name to have 5 yays gets it? If you think about how it would look it would have to be nosebone just to reach it so I think it should be either "dagger" or better yet "scissor" Any ideas?

BTW: There are more like Canadian Bacon but I dont know what they are.

i have a pretty strong skate background so im pretty uptight about grab names compared to most people around here. if you couldnt care less what you call those stink bug taps you do in the air disregard the rest of the post.

a seatbelt grab is a front hand tail grab

a crail is a backhand nosegrab(can be grabbed on heel/toe edge but not as stylish imo) nuclear was a made up snowboard grab because the nose was to long to grab a true crail.

The Headless Chicken, well wakeboarding isnt skateboarding. Crail is now back hand grabbing by front toes and seatbelt is back hand nosegrab. I dont know why but look at Higher Education..the picture shown above....any wakeboarding place.

wakeskating isnt skateboarding either does that mean we can name tricks whatever you want? im gonna call a 360 flip a willy flip, sweet. there is no need to come up with new names for old tricks regardless of whether these tricks were invented in snowboarding skateboarding or surfing.

THC is right ever since i joined this sight ive seen the weirdest names for grabs ive ever seen. I mean snowboarding and skateboarding share names... why not bring in brother wakeboarding too?

The Headless Chicken and Colclough999, I dont know. I didnt rename dome of the grabs. It just happened. Kinda like Latin developing into different languages over time. I just think that now that we have a trick with the name Seatbelt, the other grab just like it should have its own name to have less confusion.

quit bangin on tindy's, they are actually a pretty sick grab if you bone out your front leg and do a backside shifty...but otherwise i must agree, they are an easy easy grab, only acceptable when grabbing backside spins or doing the above.

personally i think grabbing between your legs is lame. it looks cool to newbs but id much rather see an indy shifty poke, straight stalefish/melan or method.
