PostPosted: Jul 05, 2005 7:40 am    Post subject: RALEY help Reply with quote

So I rode with some guys that used to be really into wakeboarding and they asked me if I've ever tried a raley, and I said no, i didn't think i got enough air. they told me i had plenty of air to do a raley but they didnt explain how to do it very well.
i understand how to initate the raley (cut in HARD and rather than resisting the pull of the rope, let it pull you forward and into the raley), but i need a lot of help on how to pull yourself back down (which im told is the really hard part). i've heard something about doing the close the window move or w/e, but have no idea what that is. anyways, i could use some help on how to pull this off.

you should've said which i'm told is the raley hard part

heh.

but i really want to try this trick too, but i'm told it's easier to learn on a wakeskate then hook the board up to you. i can imagine getting extended isn't the hard part but i DO want to try this trick next weekend and would like some "pre-attempt" advice on stomping it.

any help is raley appreciated:lol:, for me and the op

allright guys...you've got the cutting in part down...make sure you cut up the entire wake...make a point of it, this is kick you high as hell...once in the air kick you legs back and then pull the rope to your knees...if you pull it to you stomach you won't be able to land real well, you will just miss the landing so pull the rope down to your knees and you body should follow. good luck! Cool

The board will be easy to pull back down if you edge all the way through the wake with your weight even on both feet. The even weighting on the cut makes a huge difference and will decide if you stay level or go to krypt or spin bs. Also the wakeskate helps with confidence but actually hurt me more than with the board.

i tried one yesterday for the first time ever..it was pretty much a "imagine how this would go down" attempt..my bro took sequence shots, and i found that i let go with my back hand therefore never had the strength to pull the rope back down. got fully extended but just dove into the water Laughing it felt awesome though being flat out!

haha. okay so mom sent mom sent pics to my work e-mail Surprised

here's my motion

*i KNOW there's like a million things wrong with it, main one behind i have one hand on the rope and my body's not straight, but it was on a my first set of the day after having JUST landed a back roll right after a tantrum so i felt like getting the balls up to at least TRY it...laying horizontal in mid-air is a RIDICULOUS feeling though, i look forward to trying these the correct way this summer, Laughing

i tried this at the end of my last set the other day, i landed the first try but it wasn't really a raley because i wasn't fully extended. i was tired so i wasn't cutting as hard as i usually could but maybe teh boat was going a little slow. how fast do you guys ride when youre doing raleys?

FunkmaztafoX, you're not coming in to the wake w/ even weight on both feet. You were back foot heavy and that threw you off balance.

bhamglassman, same speed I usually ride...roughly 22.5 boat pending.

I was wondering if anyone could help me with my rallys. I cut at the wake super hard but as soon as I get fully extended I start to spind and end up doing a off axis 360. Can anyone help?

Lucho, keep your weight even on both feet on takeoff and when you get in the air keep your eyes on the tower.

i forgot about this thread . . . ive done some sick stuff with all this raley advice. i landed a krypt the day before last which was the sickest thing ive ever done on a board. i gota say everyone who whines about how much raleys hurt are pussies. ive fallen damn hard a lot of times on my raley attempts but its nothing bad enough to cry about. i did f--k up my shoulder bad on one but come on guys, stop scaring people out of doing raleys and everything else.
its awesome how fast a rider can progress if he learns to face his fears. this is my first year riding and after riding in front of a boat load of ppl i wanted to impress, i realized that YOUVE JUST GOTA GO BALLS TO THE WALL. now i'm workin on consistent 3's, landin 5's, ts front rolls, tantrums, and consistent raleys. Bubb Rubb YA WAKEBOARDING IS SICK!!!!
and thanks for all the posts, you guys rock

ohio_wake_2008, IT DIDNT HURT, you made that assumption. just because i Bubb Rubb up my knee doesnt mean it hurt that bad. it was actually just a really deep bruise under my tissue, a type of hematoma i guess. and after some iced pees on it the swelling went down and after like 6 ibprofun i was able to do raleys today.... nothing bad, it just looked really Bubb Rubb up. i didnt think i would even be able to do anything when i rode today but riding distracted me from it, plus the drugs kicked in.
like i said, you fall damn hard but it doesnt hurt THAT bad, i consider this nothing more than a hella bad deadleg.

I suppose I should add to this. I learned this trick last year. Some one told me to take an approach like a wake to wake as far out on to the flats as I could and put more pressure on my front foot. Well I did that, and it worked but didn't get the board back down and it knocked the wind out of me and the foot bed out of my binding. I waited until the end of the day and threw it again with less speed (concerned about the first time) big mistake! Very low! waited about a week before trying it again. After about 4 time I got it back down and road it out. I finely figured out that I didn't need to put pressure on the front foot to get it out, but for a beginner it worked for me

Was out about 3 weeks ago and threw it in chop, the wake broke as I went to hit it, laid out and crashed on my chest with my feet and head up.

The water folded me like a taco in the way you body doesn't bend. Chest pains for like 4 days, and my L3 L4 and L5 vertebrae needed to be iced for like a week before they felt better Twisted Evil

It is an easy trick to throw but it also an easy trick to mess up. Don't even attempt to learn this trick unless your on Butta'

I know how the taco thing feels man. After I did one of those I had an old man back for about a week.

i learned it in chop... lol... but that prolly wasn't a real good idea even tho it worked. i was just really anxious to try it and the whole lake was churned up by mobs of weekend boaters.

K-wood Kid, im not trying to be tough, i was just excited because i realized that bad bails on a wakeboard are not that painful or serious usually. sure, you can blow your ear drum or blow out your knee or get the occasional concussion, but the chances of serious injuries like this are way smaller than most people think, in my opinion. the bad bruises on my knees didnt even keep me from riding the next day even though they looked really bad. and after like a week i was at full strength. erictl, i meant i fell hard but didnt get hurt. for example, lots of people say theyre afraid of not pulling the board down in time and catching their edge or just laying out, well that happened to me many times and it was nothing that kept me from riding for more than a few minutes, or in one single case for the day, there just wasnt as much pain involved as most people make it out to be.
maybe i shouldnt have called people pussies but people should just realize that youve got to go for it.
oh, and i never said i learned it in 3 ft chop or went 30 ft high. the water on my lake had been choppy most of the time for like 2 weeks and i was really in the mood to learn a raley.

At the most it kept you from riding one day? Well then you dont realize that you are lucky. I watched a friend of mine come up short on a 911 and I dont want to be anywhere near a crash like that I mean he rolled face up gave us the ok sign then blacked out again and rolled back over. He got in the boat couldn't remember anything that happened in the past hour and couldn't sit up straight. Maybe they dont realize the chance of getting hurt is slimmer or you dont realize you got lucky

K-wood Kid

Note: He is the guy that learned it in one month or less. Also note his thread on wanting to do an S-Bend.

bhamglassman, Please list your tricks, toeside and heelside that you have PERFECTED. I'd appreciate it.

riding isnt about having a big trick list. its really about having fun. sure the more tricks you can do the more fun it may seem (style is really where its at, not # of tricks). but if all ur concerned about is a long list of differently arranged letters that represent certain motions in behind a boat, or someone elses list in direct comparison to their credibility as a rider or even a person, and if their list has as many letters in it as yours, then you my friend should take up something purely competitive like slalom skiing.

also, try learning a wakeskate raley to take some of the brutallity out of the crashes.
