I'm a beginner/intermediate rider and am trying to get my HS 180 down. I can do 180 TS w2w easily but everytime I land on the HS 180 I seem to not be able to get enough over on my toes and am pulled onto my butt. Any tips or advice on how to correct this problem.

Move the handle from your front hip to your back hip. Make sure you get a full 180. Land with your knees over your toes, and your chest pushed away from the wake. It's likely that you are just letting go with your front hand, letting the rope pull you around. This will not put you at 180, but somewhat short of it. Keep both hands on the handle and bring it all the way to your back hip. You are landing toeside, remember that. Try inside out a few times to get the feel of the landing.

re re, what your saying sounds like all the stuff I'm not doing. Starting inside out is probably good precursor before taking it w2w. I've been trying to plant the rope on my back hip, but just need to figure out how to stay over my toes. I'll try more bend and over my toes, I do feel like when I land that way I straighten out. Everyone on the boat says I look good and am in good position I just need to stick it. It is just like when I try backrolls, trantrum, 360's - I alwasy feel off axis. I'll try your advice tonight and let you know (as long as it doesn't storm).

Look at the shore and keep the handle on your front hip, these two things should get you out over your toes and keep you from falling on your arse

rhettb, looking at shore is always rough on new stuff. I end up looking down at the board on this one. Probably why I fall the way I do.

I think the most common issue is underrotation, so make sure you are making it around for the full 180 Smile this is a big deal with HS 180's.

I had the same problem for a long time. Then I just decided to make myself hold on with 2 hands and lean away from the boat against the rope. Stuck the landing like it was nothing. It rocked.

Do a couple of toeside jumps, then think about the position that you land in on your toeside jumps.

do most people learn HS 180 with 2hands or 1hand? Which is easier?

went out last evening, rode swith for a few minutes then did a normal 180 hs inside out. A few were pretty sloppy but landed them. The bigest problem I see is edging switch TS. I've been riding switch every time I go out now and amazing as it is, it's feels way more comfortable every time. I'm now starting to edge more switch and doing some little jumps off both wakes. After all this I tried a big w2w 180 and landed way better than I have before (still fell).

if your landing on your butt, concentrate on leaning over your toes and edging out on the landing, that should help

Don't be afraid to catch your front edge to learn this trick. Its almost required to do so a few times before you get it, IMO.

Learning HS 180s suck. Either you fall on your butt and get fireballs or go over your front for a faceplant. Even now that I can do 360s and almost 540s I still dont always land my grabbed HS 180s because there is a very narrow window of where you can land. Dont let that discourage you though. Just do the spin a little later and when you start coming around, spot your landing and try and lean over your toes a little bit.

Looking at the shore, getting the handle to the back hip, knees over toes..LFADAM make a good point about spinning a little later, pop, then pull...
Good Luck
