hey i was wondering what a good lenght would be for my wakeboarding rope. it seems when i have the rope in at the closest point (which i think is 55 feet?) i can get a lot of air and clear the wake, but i was watching the gravity games and i saw that the lenght of their rope looked like it doubled mine. it also seems i get closer to landing my back roll when i let the rope out some, but i dont get as good pop. does anyone have any help?

Generally, the more comfortable you get with your progressive edge, the more comfortable you'll be on a longer rope. I usually ride an 80 foot line, give or take 5 feet depending on which boat I'm riding behind.

I like the longer rope because 1) it gives me a lot more room to work with outside the wake, 2) it is a wider arc, so in the air I don't feel like I'm being pulled forward much, and 3) you can really generate some good speed and line tension by the time you hit the wake.

My guess is the average length people ride at is 70 feet. Try letting your rope out some and see how you like it. I mentioned that you'll be more comfy at the longer length with a good progressive edge, but riding on a longer rope will also help you learn how to edge better out of necessity.

In the end, riding between 70 - 80 feet is generally where you'll want to be. Once you're in that range, it's mostly personal preference. Just have fun playing around with it.

When you say 80 feet, is that line length of 75 + 5 for handle?

I'm beginner/intermediate and have been running at 60 line + 5 handle on a MC X2 and I land way out in the flats on HS an TS I can just clear it. I know I need to go out further for my HS but am concerned it will hurt by TS w2w progress. I guess the best thing is to try it. I'm wondering if going out further will really hurt my TS as long as I'm getting a good edge, it would seem I would be able to get more speed with a longer rope thus increasing pop and distance across the wake. What anybodies experience with this?

it seems like i can get more air with a shorter rope. Im not sure if its true, but it all depends on the wake size. But i think ill try a longer rope so i can get a better edge, usually i ride with a 60 foot.
