Coming to Austin - A few questions...

This upcoming weekend my Dad and I are taking a trip back to Austin for the first time in about 6 years. We are planning on riding Lake Austin the whole weekend.

I am just wondering where are good public launches that are free of obstacles and are quick/easy..?

Lake Austin is good for a couple runs, but because its so narrow it gets rough easily and is nearly impossible to ride on a weekend. Not to mention it is cold(50-60* year round). But if you insist on riding Lake Austin, try Emma Long Park. I recommend riding Lake Travis. I live at the dam between the two and I choose Travis anytime. You'll have to get up early, 9 at the latest to get a decent run. Mansfield Dam is a great launching site with 4 boat lanes theres almost never a wait getting on or off the lake. its $8 per vehicle and i think about $20 if you have a trailer. From Mansfield just jet across to the cliff line directly across from the dam and its almost always glass. PM me if you have any other questions

Thanks all...It looks like I'll be riding both Austin and Travis, with a stop at TSR sometime inbetween.

Both Travis(espically down by the dam) and Austin are only good from about 7 am untill maybe 11am. If all you want to do is board go to Decker lake. The water is piss warm because of a power plant and the scenery is not anywhere as good as Lakes Austin and Travis but there is plenty of good water in front of the dam almost all day long. Lake Austin has a boat ramp off of the 360 bridge that is 10$. From there go north on the river about 100 yards for the best water early in the day and late in the day. Then get off of lake austin durning the after noon . It sucks and has the most idiot drivers on it.

i second waketexas, both lakes are great till about 11 or noon, if you can handle cooler water head to austin, if you want really warm water head to travis, they both get rough quick, but both have their good locations to ride at

hoff this is scott..jakes friend at the tige owners reunion.... anyways i went down there on a trip a few weeks ago and it was pretty tight austin is really choppy on the weekend but if u dont mind some cold water go down to by the damn and you shuold be able to find some nice water and travis is pretty choppy too on the weekend aswell but we found a badass cave and had glass all day...
