There's tons of info about how to go wake to wake but how do some people go SO much bigger than other people that are riding the same wake.
Also, some days I am able to go huge and some days I just can't go as big, I don't know what I'm doing different (size of wake doesnt change much).
Good progressive edge is obvious but what exactly do you do when youre at the wake to go so huge?? _________________ signatures are lame |

Stand tall rope at hips is almost all you can do they maybe getting more air because they might lift there legs up in the air more. _________________ The sky is not the limit. Wanna see me naked? |

Thats the secret. Too many people take a strong progressive edge, but then bend their knees and absorb the wake. You need to take a good progressive edge, approach the wake in a comfortable, aggressive position with your knees bent, but then stand tall and kinda lock your knees at the crest of the wake. You'll launch a lot further and higher. It's standing tall at the last split second before take off that really does it. |

Like Buergday, said. To take it up that extra notch, you need to stand tall at just the right time....
This will give you that little bit of extra momentum to take you up that extra foot or two. _________________ PEACE

cut like a mo fo...i just started doing that and im launching. theres a point of out of control cut and just before it, if you stay comfortable with a big cut if found that you go waaaay bigger..but you have to stand tall at the wake to get the pop and the speed from the cut should send you up there _________________ money doesnt buy happiness...they should end that phrase with (just kidding) |

Maybe you're comparing normal w2w with a double up w2w? _________________ A good friend will bail you out of jail. A great friend will sit next to you saying, "man that was cool as f*ck!" |

i find that if you digest a lot of beans (pinto beans are my favorite, they totally RAWK!) and save up all of your gas for when you are shreddin' the wake; you can wait til you get to the top of the rippin' wake and let out a huge fart. dude, i get all kinds of extra air from that. some serious monsterous W2W high-flying-super-kicker-make-your-balls-shred air bra!!!
keep wakin'!!!! this message board is rippin'!!!! |

You don't need to cut extremely hard to get a lot of air, it's all about the TECHNIQUE. When I pop off the wake most of the time I feel like I'm floating. All you have to do is 1)SET your angle early 2) HOLD the same angle throughout the cut by bending your knees 3) DROP your handle to your lead hip (this makes you gain even more speed before you pop off the wake) 4) STAND TALL as you hit the top of the wake!!!. The fourth step is the MOST important.
Its just like jumping on a trampoline... if you are jumping with someone and you want to get shoot up in the air you straighten out your legs so you absorb all of the momentum and shoot straight up; if you bend your knees you don't get anywhere. The key is your timing and standing tall.
Develop a good rhythm and work on your wake jump so you're consistent then try throwing in some tricks.

a more experienced rider will have much better technique, and therefore will get much more air off the same wake. _________________ UCSB Waterski Team |

| What i do, is think of taking a hoochie glide cut, but being more flat on the board. And if u get going fast enough with the right cut, extending the legs throughout the trough will boot u. Keep the handle in in the air. |

I've been comparing my edge technique to others lately (through video) and I've noticed that a lot of people that get huge air have the good cut, but the key is they extend their legs in the trough just before the wake. They also don't extend to a "knees locked" position, they keep everything bent just a little. I get ok air but I extend at the top of the wake as I am already on the incline as opposed to the trough. I also stand completely straight as I leave the wake while others still have a good "squat" position. What does everyone think about these obsevations. I'm gonna try extending in the trough this weekend I'll give an update Monday. _________________ "I know violence isn't the answer, I got it wrong on purpose." |

5280HighButter, early extension of the legs (in the trough) sounds like a descent idea, i'm gona give that a shot when this storm clears. _________________ signatures are lame |

| also i find you need to cut different for different size wakes, the smaller the wake the slower you need to nbe goign at the wake to get height, and same with a huge wake, medium soized wakes are where you need to cut hard. i cut in slowly at fuirst and then 10-15 feet before the trough i cut like a bugger and extend my knees so they are stiff but not stright, a bt of bend to them. the thing that gets your hieght is the tension in your rope, my coach was tell ing me that, the speed only get you far, the tension will pop you up high. thats my $0.02 |

HatzicMotive140, tension = height, that makes pretty good sense. this guy ive started riding with hardly cuts out but he gets so much tension from his progressive edge by the time he hits the wake he gets lots of height and lands clean on the opposite wake. it's amazing how easy things look with good technique. _________________ signatures are lame |

true that bhamglassman , thats what i do , then if you wanna go bigger just cut out farther and gain more speed and line tension you'll sore like a focking bird |

no... it just means keep your legs from bending at all. your legs don't have to be totally straight, they just can't absorb any of your pop. _________________
