I am new to this as well, but i have heard that for wakeboarding you want a "no stretch" or "low stretch" rope. I have seen several that are spectra core ropes taht advertise this for fairly reasonable ( under $100). Check e-bay and some of the online stores.

You don't need a tower or pylon, if your not going wake to wake now, you wont on a tower either. Its all about technique, not equipment.

A wakeboard mainline is no stretch because you don't want a pull when you are in the air. Imagine riding behind a rubberband. On the water everything will be fine. But when you cut in for a jump you will stretch the rubberband. When you get airborn and there isn't tension on the line it will pull you and throw you off balance. A ski rope does the same thing only obviously not as extreme.

intotheflats...that is true, but ive wakeboarded in arizona behind my buddies xstar and i land in the flats, i figured i wouldnt but i landed pretty far out there. but yah your right it is all about technique. whenever we are in the air pretty high it is hard to stay balanced somtimes which you mentioned about the rope tension.

Thats because of the wake, not the tower

Also if you can get your "progressive edge" down you will be amazed. Stay away from stretchy lines and shorten the line up. You can always move it back if your landing in the flats.
