Go get a pump man. Fill them up when you hit the lake and just reverse the pump when you leave to pump the water out. Dont dump the water into your boat, your bilge pump probably isn't set up to handle thousands of gallons of water. You'll burn it up. You can get a good pump for like $75. _________________ F around, F around, soon you won't be around |

actually ridinaz, that's exactly what bilge pumps are meant for to remove the water quickly and efficient from the boat so when it's takeing on water automatically goes on or when tis' sinking.

AirProfile, I hear what you are saying. I know what a bilge pump does. Boats are not supposed to take on that much water. In my old boat (Mobius) I had two 800lb sacs. Do you know how much water that is. Why would you not just get a pump and let it do the work. Also you don't have to trailer all that water by not filling up at the house. That not good for your boat. _________________ F around, F around, soon you won't be around |

| lets not even start the trailer discussion thing. I myself dont do it, but the dealership around here said that the weight is so evenly distributed on the trailer, it dont matter. |

| You don't put thousands of gallons of water in fat sacs, but your bilge pump is still not the best bet for emptying. To answer the pump question, I went to Wal Mart and bought Attwood 750 GPH aerator pumps and some hose and it works great, takes about 10 minutes for me to fill my 50 gallon tanks (per tank). The pumps aren't reversible, but you just switch the pump around to pump the water out. The ones I bought were about 20 dollars apiece. |

dude, I bought a 600gph Live Bait well pump for $15 bucks at Sports Authority. then bought 10 feet of hose from Ace hardware for about 10$. add a few clamps 1.99$, and maybe some electrical with and butte end connectors, and your will be all set!
all for under $30.
plus lake water is free. if you fill up at home...your water bill will likey go up. and that is no bueno! |

Everyone that said you can burn your bilge pump out pumping that much water out is absolutely right. You do not want that pump working that hard for that amount of time. If you do not want to buy a pump, just fill the sacks up before you leave home and pull the drain plug on the boat on the ramp at the end of the day. _________________ Board2die!

I dont know about that. Like Junkee said "plus lake water is free. if you fill up at home...your water bill will likey go up. and that is no bueno!"
Do you know how much your bill would go up by pumping in thousands of gallons a month only to empty in the lake or street. That is definately not the cheapest way. _________________ F around, F around, soon you won't be around |

Thousands of gallons? WTF?
If you have a 2,000 lb ballast system, you are talking about 240 gallons.
At 1.7 cents per cubic foot (here in the city) I believe that is about 53 cents per fill-up. |

Tack that 53 cents on to the extra gas you will burn towing the boat to the lake, wear and tear on your engine and Tires as well as possible long term damage to the boat and I would say that its better to spend the $30 bucks on a pump.
I fingure the pump pays for itself in less than 15 outings. |

I'm with ya there. You won't find me towing with any ballast in the boat and I even prefer to fill up the gas tank close to the destination. |

fat sacs are for pussys, get a tarp and cover the interior and just fill up the inside of your boat!
that actually would be kinda cool, if you cold find a way to keep the driver seat, and to hold down the tarp, you could have something to swim in!

The absolute cheapest way would probably pic up about 30 homeless guys on your way to the lake. just throw em on the roof or something. Then when you get there, have them all pee in your ballast tank. At 0$ per homeless guy, each time you fill up it will cost you (0x30)=0$!!!! Plus you can throw a couple of em in the boat and use them as ballast to. _________________ "My wife waxed my back once....

I bought a pump on e-bay for ~$40.
HOWEVER, the stated 9' wire/cable was 6' - not long enough to reach where it needed.
I bought some similar wire at Radio Shack for (little $, I forget how much).
The seller gave me a partial refund on the pump when I asked for it.
All's well that ends well. |

Fasha, excellent post. If you think of the weight of water an 800# fat sac is 100 gallons. My bilge pump will do that in 3 min. give or take.
