It probably contained typical CYA lawyerese (e.g., "Wakeboarding is inherently dangerous; don't use near docks; don't ride in shallow water," etc.) I don't think it was anything you need.

Speed could be the problem. Do you typically tow slalom skiers? There's a big difference in technique when getting a skier out of the water vs. a boarder. Increase speed very gradually, especially for a beginner. Beginners have a tendency to push the board away from them as the boat starts the pull. He should let the board come underneath him, then stand up.

First time rider you should be going 18 mph...

If he is having trouble getting up there are many Instructional clips on the internet...The best one I have come across is on http://www.cwbwakeboards.com/2005.html Just click on video and the scroll down to "How To Start" and open the video with what mediaplayer you have.
If you need more Information or would really like to get the best information for your grandson the you should check out the 5 disk series "The Book" instructional video with over 8 hours of footage from many different pro riders....you can buy it online or at your local board shop, Here is a link to the vid= http://www.wakeside.com/page/W/PROD/instructional_videos/the_book_series_video_dvd

Also there are great reviews and the site owner Pat has made his own review on the video and I recomend you check it out. http://www.wakeboarder.com/display.phtml?a=972

I hope this Information helps your grandson.
