first off a tower is a huge mega part of wake boarding. What the tower does is
/
when you jump your rope is like this: -----, instead of this / whitch lets you get hella higher

My seccond tip is get a board package out of Overtons or Ski Limited, because you coa get a board&bindings for dirt cheap, oh yah ebay is amazing, I got a wake skate for $53

My third tip is: for your birthday/christmas ask your parents, if you still live with them, to buy you a wake skate off ebay

have fun bro!

Ylwflg101, A tower is not necessary you can get buy without it for a while. I have seen people pull inverts without it. I would get a beginner/intermediate board that is for your size and start from there. Don't skip steps int the learning process and have fun.

if you don't have a tower you get pulled down by the rope when you get air
a tower is not a necesity but when you advance your skills you will want one

Ylwflg101, What kind of boat do have at your disposal. Is it your rents, or a friends?? How much riding do you see yourself doing in the coming years? If you are a slalom skier / Kneeboarder you should be able to pick this sport up quickly. My point is... if you get a more expensive intermediate to advanced level board you will not out grow it as fast as the ones from Overtons. When I started boarding I picked up a new 2000 Byerly finless, and everyone told me, "that board will be too hard for you to control." but I bought it anyway, and I still ride that board from time to time 5 years later. It was a very good investment. Yes it was harder to learn on, but it taught me how to edge properly, and I'm a better rider now because of it. I'm not craping on the cheaper boards but if you'll be boarding even just once or twice a week you'll progress fast and want to upgrade soon. If this is something you'll be doing two or three times a year. Then yes go with a cheaper less expensive set up.
