Amazing forums! I have a question regarding boards, just recently (3 weeks ago) started wakebrdg. Currently friends and i are using a 20 ft bayliner, no tower, i/o engine on a rough lake. The only board we have is a 94-96 (not sure of year) hyperlite with stock hyperlite bindings, probably a 143. We can all get up, cross the wake, jump ( a little), couple of us can butterslide (but its rough cause we can't ride switch to well) are we better off using the old hyperlite or buying something along the lines of a hydroslide, even though i know they are awful but we don't have the cash for a $250-400 board. Thanks in advance.

i would deffinatly stick with your hyperlite. Would be better than an 05 hydroslyde In My Opinion.. Also you dont nessacerialy need to buy a new board if that one works for you all and you guys are haveing a fun time out. Wink

fmf, it sounds like you guys should do fine with that board for awhile until you really start jumping the wake. If you feel like it's holding you back at all or just want a better board, check ebay or even the classifieds on this site - there's deals to be had if you look at older models 03's, 04's. That way you don't have to pay for the latest and greatest.. a lot of the board shapes are pretty much the same anyway. I got my 03 doubleup about a year and a half ago and paid something like $170. I got a used premier for $150 too - minor scratch on it, but who cares! Hope that helps you out!

Thanks all for the replies. After reading some of the really old posts in the newbie forum i kind of figured sticking with the oldie but goodie would be the better route. i started looking at the classifieds so should find something soon in our price range. i havn't been able to ride switch yet every time i try i bury the back of the board into the h20. i am assuming the shape of the older board (point at one end, squared at the rear) is going to keep causing fits, so should i just work on the jumping and sliding? or keep working on the switch ride? also we are riding with a single small fin should we take it off? thank you again in advance. it's a testament to this website that a bunch of 30 somethings can get up on the first day, and then start thinking about tricks a couple of sessions later.
Very Happy
