help...my parents want me to get a hydroslide....

my parents want me to get a used hydroslide instead of a LF or a CWB because its way cheaper

can anyone tell me what is so bad about hydroslides so i can persuade my parents to get me a better board??

have you ever wakeboarded before? Hydroslides are limited on the tricks you can do and the fun you can have. When I was younger, my parents had a hydroslide, and all I could really do was go back and forth across the wake. On a wakeboard you have much more you can do. I'm sure if you worked at it, you could learn lots of tricks on a slide, but those things are so outdated. Wakeboarding is the way to go.

Uhhhhh.....Hydroslide makes wakeboards. I think he's saying that his parents want to buy him a Hydroslide wakeboard?

If you are a beginner the Hydroslide won't be that bad, but if you get into the sport you will outgrow it by the end of summer. These boards just don't have a whole lot going on with them underneath the board as far as rocker and channels are concerned. I also don't think they have any type of molded fins, so you are limited there as well.

Tell your parents that you will be better off getting a used qaulity board. You can find an 02 or 03 board that is much more versatile than the Hydroslide and it will be cheaper. I picked up an 01 HL Byerly last year for $75!

Just check E-bay and/or the local message boards in your area.

Go to evogear.com or ebay, you can find an 03 or 04 board that is a much better board and bindings than a hydroslide. Your parents will still be paying a little more money, but not near as much if you were to get brand new 2005 equipment. Just remind them that you get what you pay for, and when you buy hydroslide you don't get much. I am speaking from experience, at least from the binding point of view.

sajasmith2, what up? Just wanted to give a shout out to a Williamsburger!! I'm down in VA Beach. My wife has a few boards... Gator, LF & Hyperlite... at her shop here. They have the entry level stuff if you want to check it out. Just click the website in my signature (to get the shop info). They will let you demo the boards.

I don't know anything about HydroSlide wakeboards. I know that when I was a kid, they were the shizz for kneeboards!!

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, NOT A HYDROSLIDE!!! ANYTHING BUT A HYDROSLIDE!!! I learned ione and then I got an 03 obrien player with 04 transits and i thought I was going to faint. You do get what you pay for. Look around on here for an old used board and you'll find somhing alot better than that for only a little more.

that is the board, I honestly don't know that much about it, but I have a friend that started out on it and it worked fine.

Those 2 make a pretty decent set up for the money. I was just looking for cheaper, beginner boards and bindings. Hope this can help!

P.S.--it is always better to support a local boardshop, but these are just things to look at.

LF Evo 134
LF Substance 134
Gator Lexi Board binding combo - size 127 (girl's board - I'm guessing you are a guy - since you are kicking the size 8's)
Gator Classic - board & binding combo - size 127 (guy's board)
Gator Gonzalez - 132

They usually demo the board for 24 hours. They have small/med Element bindings.

I'd say the 131-134 size would suit you best, based on your size. Don't go too small because at 13, you are probably growing like a weed. I would say that if you are starting out, the Evo is right up your alley. I think the LF substance and Gator Gonzalez might be a little aggressive.

usually it cost aroun 20 or 30 bux to demo, and that cost goes towards the purchase price if you get a board from that store.

I know that they can probably get more boards - they have an agreement with a place in Elizabeth City, NC called the Boardroom. Those are the boards they have for sale in their store (in my wife's store, they sell Centurion tow boats). They can probably get more boards from them.

If you can convince your parents to drive you to VA Beach this weekend (Saturday), there is a tournament that will be a lot of fun. My wife's store is hosting the tournament. I know for a fact that the Boardroom will be there with a trailer full of goodies for sale. If you are seriously interested in getting a board, this may be the best way. I can tell them to bring the board of your choice to the tourney, so that you can take it for a demo.

I'll get back to you as soon as I hear from her.

Yes, they can order boards from LF. If the board is in stock, the turn around time is a week. If it isn't, no telling what the turn around time would be. They would have to call on a case by case basis to find out.

The Evo is $255
The Elements are $209.99

No cost to demo. Just have to give ID and credit card and you get 24 hours to demo. If you damage the board, you just bought it. If you scratch it slightly, it will probably be around $50 because we will have to mark it down by $50 to be able to sell it.

Me again... I know for a fact they won't be able to beat the price of the Nemesis that rmm025 found above. It's probably a leftover 2004, which is why it's been marked down. I'm pretty sure that my wife doesn't have anymore leftovers.

We actually have access to a private lake, because of who my wife works for. other than that, the intracoastal waterway. I'm not sure where to go up around where you are. There's so much water in this area, you are sure to find a great spot. Iknow the chickahominy is close to you.

I totally understand the price issue. This stuff is expensive. You are WAY better off to find an '04 leftover. They usually cut the price down to cost to try and get rid of it. There is a place in Richmond called Glass & Powder. I'd call them up and see if they have any leftovers.

In my wifes store, they had an '04 parks for like $250 (retail new is over $400!!) That baby didn't last long at that price!

dude if you are a beginner a hydroslide will be fine. if i remember right they are made by the same people that make hyperlite(HO sports). alot of their shapes are similar, as well some of their binding are very similar. its like a toyota, and lexus type relationship.

and i have seen hydroslides with molded fins. for the person that mentioned that.

if im wrong about the HL hydroslide relations ship please correct me. thanks.,

I don't know but the hydroslide that I ahve is slightly more flexible than a wet noolde. They truely are a piece of stuff.

ya know...if I had a kid (which I don't yet, thankfully) I would welcome his input on something, but there's a very fine fine line there between being an ungrateful brat and being constructive. If you're a beginner, there's no point in trying to get your parents to buy something more expensive when something cheaper will more than suffice because you wanna be cool...buy it yourself if it's that important to you.

There's plenty in unfortunate circumstances that would love to have the broken half of a hydroslide board! As someone who had never boarded before I had NO CLUE what I was getting. I just went into my local Copelands and picked up a Hyperlite board that was on sale. It was a 2000(?) with sandal style bindings. I tried for 3 years to get that stupid board to work for me. After being fed up with the board and getting a new boat I decided it was time for me to get some decent bindings since a friend told me that the bindings I had were no good for learning. Well, I got some Spin bindings and it made a HUGE difference, I was actually able to get up! Then I went out and got a LF Diva board '04 and put my Spins on it and I was suddenly able to do SO MUCH MORE! My hubby just got a Temet and I tried that puppy out last weekend and I LOVE IT! I totally want to trade in my board for one of those!

Moral of the story: You get what you pay for! AVOID sandal bindings, get something with molded fins and 4 fins if possible (they help tracking). You don't have to get a brand new model of everything- mix and match. Don't go low budget or you'll end up spending more in the long run. I know you're growing but tell your parents you can always trade it in and get a newer board. Check out Play it Again if you have one on your area. I was there last weekend and they had MANY hyperlite and a few Liquid Force boards. I would stick with the better known brands if you want decent performance. Razz

Don't forget the safety angle here. We sometimes forget (or are unpleasantly reminded) how dangerous wakeboarding can be. While I don't think a particular board will help prevent injuries to any significant degree... good bindings could. Those hydroslide bindings suck.... no ankle support... easy to fall out of.... just all around flimsy. A binding that holds your feet in and provides the proper support could help avoid an injury which carries no price tag in my opinion.
