I'm getting a little more frustrated with HP. This Laptop I bought for my wife came preloaded with a LOT of stuff I dont want. Now I'm wishing I had just reformatted and installed just an operating system. But now that it has a bunch of games, pics and other stuff she won't want me doing that. It came with MS Office, which you have to pay something like $250 to register. So i installed Open Office. It came with Norton which is embedded EVERYwhere through out the computer. It wouldn't uninstall, so I went throught registry and deleted a ton of keys, which seemd to solve that problem. I installed AVG instead for Antivirus. It has ZoneGames installed, which you cannot uninstall. So I went to the folder to delete it. You cannot delet the folder, but you can delete the contents, but as soon as you do, within 10 secons they start comming back. What you deleted is still on the recycle bin, but now there are more of the same.

Now to my curent problem. It has a DVD burner, but the software that came with the HP will only write Data. to write a "DVD" you have to pay to upgrade the software. I am now looking for a FREE full function easy to use DVD movie writing program. I'm doing the whole google thing, but findind some that are ad suported, which I don't want. Anyone know of a good program?

Thanks, Darin

Also, I have no experience in doing this. So I'm hoping the programs listed above will format the video on my computer to DVD. I have WMV's, and AVI's.

Also, do you know of a program that will let me import more than the 9 minutes that Windows Movie Maker limits too?

Ok, anyone making DVD's of thier own, like from a DV camera?

I'm looking for forums and tutorials, but finding alot of informaiton I don't think I need. My questions are these?

The DVD burning pregrams I'm seeing are saying they burn Data. If I burn a video as Data, will it play in a DVD player?
Don't I need to convert my wmv's and avi's and mpegs to somehting else?

The programs I have downloaded already don't have options for menues etc.

The DVD writer is on the laptop, but I want to do the editing on the desktop. Can I connect the two with a firewire cable alone so that my desktop will see the burner on the laptop as an external drive and write to it?

How long can I expect it to take to write an hour or so to a DVD?

Is Roxio 7.5 anygood? They have video editing. I'd like to try something other than Micro Soft movie maker. I think I will now be spending a little money. But want to keep it under a $100.

Studio 9 by Pinnacle is a good entry level program for video editing and DVD authoring. The interface is easy to use and it does not have a steap learning curve. Earlier versions had some issues with stability, but I believe they have fixed that. It sells for around $80. This program will allow you to capture, edit, and then burn your videos to DVD including the menus.
