CWB Absolute Platinum or CWB Marius?

I am in a place I can't demo guys, but I have ridden the Absolute Platinum, but not the Marius. The absolute seems good for me, but I really want to know how the Marius compares on landings and pop.

Anybody got some info?

I was debating the same thing as I could not demo the Marius. Based on what others have posted around here...
Please note this is just my summary on the concensus posted here and other places.

1) Marius is much softer on landings... definitely the softest in the CWB line.
2) Marius has a lot of pop. From what others have said, it probably has as much pop as the Absolute but slightly more consistent and smooth since it is a continuous vs a subtle 3 stage.
3) Marius was described as a bit faster than the absolute.

Needless to say, I did demo an absolute but couldn't demo a Marius. I ordered the Marius today and should get it tomorrow. I can fill you in after a ride or two. I wanted the softest landing board that still had great pop... based on all 3rd party info, this should fit the bill.

i just got my hands on a Marius and rode, its great!

super soft landings, and faster than the absolute...

yeah im also looking at the marius and have heard nothing but good reviews, just wanted to know if it would be worth the extra money to get a cwb board ( marius/absolute) as opposed to a liquid force board (substance/subject) because if their really similiar i'd rather spend less money, thanks Very Happy

I personally feel that the Absolute and Substance are very similar. I have ridden both within a one week or so time frame and really didn't feel any HUGE differences between the two. It did feel like the absolute had a little more pop and a little softer landings but being that I rode them in different water conditions on different weeks, it is really too close to call. I thought the feel of those two boards was pretty similar (Absolute maybe a tad looser).

The Marius on the other hand is no way similar to those boards. Once I get mine, I will give you a comparison.

The Marius is cool, due to the fact that many new innovative designs have been put into its creation, i.e. the greater width, and the dual center beam, but it is harder to put on edge than the absolute. The Marius would be more stable and have soft landings, but the Abs. Plat. would be the better all around board.

I just bought an Absolute (coming from a Byerly) and I must say that out of all the boards I have ridden, the absolute IS the funnest one to ride. Haven't tried the Marius, but maybe I'll demo next time I go out.

Landings I can handle, and I have pretty dam good pop of a Launch with only 300lbs ballast, but considering I like to be able to carve an edge pretty well, and get some speed, it looks like the Absolute Platinum might be the way to go.

Waiting on Schmo to come back from his ride and tell us what's the skinny.....

Going out this evening... couldn't get out yesterday. Love living just outside Atlanta... ordered at 1pm on Tues and was at my doorstep at 10:30am on Wed with the standard free shipping from buywake/Ambush.

To me, landings are a huge selling point since I am not the youngest and anything that can help absorb the shock of landings is a good thing. If it is close as fast as my 03 Premier (which is not that fast), pops close to that (which it sounds like it does... maybe a little more subtle) and has these super soft landings that everyone is raving about... I have a winner. If not, the absolute may be my next board too and someone will get a barely used Marius at a discount.

I would also be interested in the Transcend but that may be too slow for my tastes.

Well, I have ridden it but need to ride it a few more times to get the full feel for it. It is the first board that I have ridden in a while that actually felt enough different. (To me, the 03 Premier, 05 Substance and 05 Absolute all felt very similar with minor differences ... probably should as they are all similar board shapes).

The Marius is definitely a different feel. I do feel that it gave a more controlled pop and it shot me furthur out than I expected at first. After tweaking a few things, I got it back to going wake to wake (vs. flats) with similar height to the absolute/substance/premier. I did seem a little more tired after riding it but I was tired in general yesterday and didn't go back to riding the premier so I can't say with certainty that it required more work to edge but that is my gut feel at the moment.

I will say that my toe side felt way more comfortable and poppy on this board. I can't really determine why that may be but it felt more comfortable cutting in on that side and the pop was strong and controlled.

The landings are softer but not dramatically more than the absolute. The 05 Absolute landed pretty nice due to its enlonged spine.

I will provide more feedback but it will take a few more runs (and me switching back and forth) to really get a full feel for it.

The guy I went out with said that after the first set, I looked very comfortable and consistent. He said that I was going as high if not a tad higher.

i own both boards, its personal preferance...i would suggest demoing them!!!

i like the maruis just because of how soft the landings are, i could see it as beeing slower, you just have to work a little harder, no big deal Smile
