I am about to start wakeboarding and I already have a boat with no tower. Will it be okay to wakeboard without one? I plan on just using the ski/tube base (dont really know what it is called...) where you tie the rope off, but it is really low. Will that make much of a difference? What difficulties might arise from not using a tower? |

No you don't. I don't have one. You will still be able to jump w2w and do alot of spins grabs and maybe some basic inverts. The only thing a tower does is help you up and give you more hangtime.

You don't need a tower. I learned to go w2w, basic grabs, and 180's from the low tow point. _________________ - "Hurry up and finish your wine so we can go get us some milkshakes " - |

I learned 8 or 9 basic inverts and 3s & 5s without one. I put one on the boat this winter, and find myself over-rotating all my inverts now!
The nicest thing is the board storage in the board racks. No more crawling over the boards or walking along the gunnels!

I can jump w2w behind a jet ski. I doubt if he meant "can you ride a wakeboard without a tower?" He seems to be asking "does it help your riding?" |

I hated the low tow point. It sucked, a regular heigh pylon or something to the like is better. |

A tower will help your jumps and getting out of the water. If you don't want to dump the money on a tower, you can pickup a pylon for a couple hundred bucks. A tower is better for storage, space and looks, but a pylon functions just as good. _________________ "You know what those things can do? towers aren't that benficial until you're trying inverts. And even if you have a decent wake with no tower you can still land most of them. So you could probably wait a while to pick one up. And at that point you're probably going to want a new boat anyways. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

Put it this way.... I started wakeboarding last summer. Before I had the tower I was doing pretty decent... I could clear the wake...most of the time... 180's and all that basic good stuff. Put the tower on the boat the end of June last year.... totaly improved my riding!!!! I was into the flats, everytime... and trying basic inverts and spins... I know the tower really helped me. I put a Monster on my boat. hope this helps.... my $.02, its worth the money!!!! |

If you have the money and want to add one I would. I used to get pretty tired behind the I/O without a tower. Now I can ride for 15-20 minutes and not get tired.. |

its definatly not necessary to have one, i ride without one and i am able to spin 180's and big 3's over the wake. inverts are a little harder to do though, but we are buying a tower very soon. |
