aloharodeo - I was referring to the original post in this topic asking if you should use soap to help you pop out in a wipeout. |
That had already been answered. _________________ Some female cows have horns, but you wouldn't really know anything about that now would you? |

ditto to that, for the geting up, riding switch and getting more air and progressive edge stuff too.

Maye also a note saying "if you are so tired of answering newbie questions, maybe you shouldn't be reading the newbie forum"
We newbies all like help from the "old timers", but it does get a little tiring seeing simple questions getting slammed by the post-a-holics.
I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but sometimes you gotta say your peace!
All that aside, sticky threads for common questions is a very good idea. _________________ Shifting from day to night, shifting from snow skiing to wakeboarding, shifting from professional to professional goof-off - always shifting. |

I have no problem answering people's questions, if I did I wouldn't be here. But it's slightly disturbing to scroll down the page and see the same question 10 times.
as for you, Shifter, saying "simple questions getting slammed by the post-a-holics"
what are you talking about?
if you think questions have been "slammed" here, you need to seriously lighten up, I haven't seen any "slamming". _________________ Some female cows have horns, but you wouldn't really know anything about that now would you? |

New Mastercraft boats have a "Binding Blaster" - "Dispences thick binding lubricant for getting **into** bindings" This is a quote taken from the MC booklet.
Most pro riders use this stuff to get into good quality bindings. They should be a snug fit when they fit properly and good bindings have a zip or a pull cord to help you stay in after that. Good lub comes straight off when you get into the water - unless you do a dock start, and is eco friendly. There is nothing more dangerous than one foot coming out of a binding - this can twist an anckle or knee joint.
Good bindings will release only when absoluty necessary.

Has anyone actually had to get new bindings because they "dried out"? or is that just something that the binding lube companies made up so ppl will buy their products _________________ d[^_^]b |

| I just have to add, putting slime in the binding is useless to me. I squirt about a teaspoon on the top of each foot and do a little dance while sitting on the back of the boat to spread it completely over my feet, then they drop in the binding buttersmooth. I've tried putting them on without it, and I was dead tired just by the time I got into them! LOL I even chipped a tooth once from bearing down so hard! |

I use a little binding slime on my feet.
But if you're going to get really cheap, suave shampoo is biodegradable. It might dry out the rubber though.
Do NOT use silicon spray though if you want the stuff you wash out anytime during that run. Silicon is for trying bindings on in the store and for dry suits. I make people who come out in my boat without equipment use it to save my binding slime, but silicon doesn't come out of bindings very easily. |

| nope, they sell it at the store here, and a ton of people I know use it. I won't let it touch my bindings. It actually works quite well to get into the bindings, but doesn't wash out completely. |

What's that snapping sound???? It's your leg snapping apart in what's called a spiral break. |
How common is this kind of injury in wakeboarding? _________________ Check out my wakeboarding links page. |

it's more likely to get a broken ankle if this happens, and I know someone who that exact thing happened to. It happens, but probably not as often as knee injuries. _________________ Some female cows have horns, but you wouldn't really know anything about that now would you? |

Some of these posts talk about soap ruining and drying out rubber in the bindings, what about neoprene in the Tranist and such?

You are correct, snowboard bindings do not release for this very reason. And there are very few leg injuries for snowboarders. I am very surprised that anyone would want to come out of there wakeboard bindings when they fall. _________________ Check out my wakeboarding links page. |

soap = bad, the phosphates bond in the water and lead to eutrophication of the lake, which basically mean it kills everything _________________ finally got my boat!!!

Just to expand on wtbamoomba’s comments: Phosphates are threatening the lake I ride on and have already almost killed a nearby lake. They act as fertilizer for algae and weeds. The fish die, the weeds clog the lake, property values decline, etc. There are already areas of our lake closed to boating because of weeds. Phosphates come from soaps, fertilizers applied near lakes and rivers, and human waste. Cutting down trees and natural vegetation close to the shoreline removes the lake’s natural defenses. A lush green lawn next to the lake can mean fertilizers are going into the lake Phosphate free soaps are available, you just have to look for them and read labels carefully and sometimes pay a little more, which IMO is worth it.
Fortunately, some dishwashing soaps are phosphate free and state it on the label. For binding lube you can take a spray bottle, put a little dishwashing soap in it and fill the rest with water. You're really just spraying water inside the bindings and the small amount soap adds a little extra lube.
Thanks for listening to my green rant! I hope to be using the lake for a few more decades
