Hello everyone. I'm new to the site.

I'm going to be trying a HS Backroll (mexican style) this weekend and will gladly take any advice. I've already tried it 10-15 times, and once last weekend I landed with rope in hand, on the board, but VERY scrunched down and was unable to pull it off.

I have been practicing daily on my tramp and can hit it pretty well on that. I jump up, pull the handle in to touch my right (im goofy) hip, spin around, and about 3/4 through, look behind my right shoulder to spot landing.

On the tramp, my height on jumps is very consistent (not hard to do) but on the water, it is a little more tricky so often times when i try the trick, I do not know if I am over-rotating or under-rotatind until I hit the water (hard to spot landing).

Anyway, thats my deal, any advice, again, is greatly appreciated. Hopefully I'll post Monday that I nailed it Smile

why are you trying to learn it mexican?? I always prefer to see this trick done the right way. I guess myself and everyone i ride with consider the mexican backroll kind of a cheated backroll. I could be wrong tho. I'm not bashing you, just wondering. I've never tried to do it mexican.

Well, this is my first invert and I want to try something I'm comfortable with. On the tramp, I can do a front flip no problem. Trying a cartwheel-style flip is a little scary to me right now and I'm very eager to land any invert.

I understand that to experienced riders who can nail 5 kinds of inverts, a mexican is cheap, but to me (invert-n00b) its wonderful Smile

You should try a mexican.

I just had mexican food for lunch, does that count???

My first invert was a backroll, but I didn't learn it mexican. Hey, I'm not saying it's not impressive, heck it's an invert, so it's cool. Just seemd like your trying to learn it mexican instead of the normal way. If you get it, I would suggest trying it the regular way as well.

Oh don't you worry. I have a slew of tricks on que in my head. Very Happy

Once I land this, I'll probably start looking at getting my HS 360s consistent, then either a true backroll or a tantrum. Just need to borrow some balls to try those on my trampoline.

I am also tempted to try a raley, even though its out of my skill range, just cause they look so darn cool.

Anyway, let's keep this on topic--advice for my mexican this weekend please...thanks! Cool

ok, sorry about that.

wait for the pop off the wake, most of the time people go to early, and headplant. Handle close to your lead hip. You've been doing it on the tramp, so you know how to throw the rotation. When you're coming around, spot the landing. Keep your knees bent so you can absorb the impact on landing, and your elbows bent so the boat doesn't pull you over the front of your board. BTW, I think it's easier to spot the landing on normal backrolls.

Yea, I'm sure it is easier--also easier to spot on tantrums. Unfortunately I am a wuss and cannot convince myself to try those on a tramp just yet.

I guess the main reason I'm trying the mexican is because i almost landed it once and have never attempted anything else. Wouldn't you land a trick you almost had before moving on to another?

Thanks for the advice. Anyone else? This site rules

Mexican is basically a front flip on a trampoline. Backroll is a cartwheel flip on a trampoline.

Landon126, a backroll isn't anything like flipping on a tramp. Let the wake do the work. Cut about 15 feet out from the wake, then take a progressive edge in. ride all the way up the wake and throw your ear to your rear shoulder, but remember to pop first, flip second. 3/4 way through the flip, pull the rope to your hips and spot your landing. keep your weight centred when you land it and edge away from the wake.

Yes, I know what a backroll is, I'm trying to explain to wake princess007 what it looks like. On the tramp, it is basically a cartwheel flip, as described in "The Book".

I tried mexi rolls before i landed back rolls and backrolls are WAY easyer. Huck it with your feet and you'll be fine. raleys are easy too. just hard to learn. if you have a solid HS cut you can land a raley. have fun and tell us how it goes. and get some video so we can help you out.

My HS is pretty solid. Thanks for the encouragement, I'll try to video it so you can either high-five me or at least get a good laugh Shocked

personally, i think straight backrolls are quite ugly. but thats just opinion, and mexican style is better than regular backrolls. its good to learn em, then you'll have an easier time when you get into more complex inverts that are built off of it, like kgb's and such
