Would you neuter your dog? I know all the health reason why you should, but would you?

That's redundant. "Neuter" is for males. "Spay" is for females.
My dog has all his equipment, but only because I was thinking of breeding him. Otherwise, I would've.

| No, I wouldn't neuter my dog, I would get someone who knew what they were doing, like a vet.

It's imperative to spay or neuter your dog. Not only for the health of the dog, but for the hundreds of thousands of dogs who are in shelters already without a home.
Of course, show dogs and show dog breeders are an exception.
Plus, an intact dog is three times more likely to bite.

On a morning radio show yesterday they were talking about people who take their male dogs in for a "faux set" ('Neuticles' I think??) after they remove the real ones.
Nice....

Are you serious?
They have banned plastic surgery on certain pets in CA. When I was out there, they were talking about de-clawing cats and removing vocal cords etc. Who would have thunk?

Our dog would go to any extent to tackle the lab next door. Finally ended it when their 8 year old kid knocked on our door saying that our dog was "hurting" hers. Ole Sparky was going to town like Ron Jeremy. Brought a tear to my eye. I wanted to go give him a high five, but due the crying little girl, I had to rain on his parade.
Chop em.

Unless we decide to breed him, he'll get his snipped. I'd kinda like to make some money back from this guy. Let the little stud provide a service to a nice maltese bitch.

wierd question. since dogs get seperation anxiety often. does neutering them make them freak out? cause i know i would miss my cojones if they were to be chopped off.

You made your dogs do that to themselves?

Studded out my previous dog before having him fixed.... The process was what convinced me to have him go under the knife. ONE HUGE PITA.

What happened? I'm interested since I have considered doing this with our dog.

| We had our lab spayed because we decided not to breed her. Plus, the bleeding everywhere is a PITA.

It is a very long drawn out story. In short….pick of the litter or $500 fee…. Want pick of the litter…. After birth, hounded about just taking money…..not pick of litter. Very secretive about giving us access to puppies. Bla…bla…bla…. After 6 months, contacted by the AKC for photos and pedigree of my dog due to a complaint from a buyer of another one of the pups. I actually gave the pick of the litter to a friend of mine and it was nice to see him mature and see the dog he became, but not so nice that I would ever do it again.
I am sure much of this being a poor experience was due to the people I was dealing with, but who knows. My current dog is a product of a litter my wife’s bosses dog had(how is that for a sentence Swass). Stud dog was provided by a friend of the family. After the process, they have decided to have their dog fixed. Again, the report from them…..big PITA. Also, report that after vet bills and what not, came out nominally ahead +/- $1,000. That money estimate does not include time, which if factored in, probably puts them in the hole.

| My dogs are show dogs, so they aren't neutered, but if I wasn't showing them or they weren't show quality they would be neutered. My dogs I have had in the past that I didn't show were all fixed. I feel that inless your dogs are show quality and/or being showed they should be neutered. Just my opinion from being in the dog show world. But if you really do want to breed your dog, make sure that you are a responsible breeder. Do your research and get your dog's health clearences, I don't know about all breeds, but usually with the bigger breeds it includes hips, elbows, heart, eyes, etc. The tests do cost a lot of money, but its worth in it the long run...

I agree 100% Grace....but being worth it in the long run is relative. I feel it is worth it for the love of the breed. As far as dollars, producing a litter 1-2 times a year from a champion stud and selling every pet quality pup under contract to have fixed in first year and every show quality pup under contract to show in X amount of time or have fixed is never going to be a huge money maker.
ALWAYS a good idea to have a health clearance on both sides before breeding. Also seeing these before buying a pup. Though not an assurance as my Doberman died of cardiomyopathy at the age of 9. Both parents had been checked.
Swass.... It is unfortunate that my son is passing me in the 3 R's and he is 9 today..... Thank God I can scrape a living out of the social sciences....when things get confusing, I just make my notes illegible.
