I have read about non-stretch ropes made specifically for wakeboarding. These ropes are rather expensive and I would like to know if people here really think that the cost is justified. If so, what is the benefit?
Wakeboard handles are also fairly expensive and I have the same questions about them.
And if I do buy a rope, it will be for a Bayliner 205 with a Monster Tower. What is the minimum length I should get? _________________ Check out my wakeboarding links page. |

there is not real minumum length to a certain boat... unless its an outboard and then u should have atleast 15 feet, anyway i ride at 70 and it is nice. i think they sell most ropes with the same distance they just have loops every 5 or so feet. it also depends on your wake. The ropes are way worth it, if it stretches it dosnt throw you up in the air that well. a good one rope that is not expensive as most but still a nice rope is the fuse series by accurate.

that is the fuse, way worth it, more than the handle, but the handles i think are worth it too. get one that has a lot of grip so as to not slip and such. |

Is there any benefit beyond the increased air time?
I am just starting out and big air is not my primary concern right now.
Should I wait to buy a rope until I am seeking more air that I can easily get out of the rope I am currently using? _________________ Check out my wakeboarding links page. |

tedamenta, I know this is the newbie forum.
But honestly if you want to know why/how a non stretch rope works please use the search for a more detailed information.
To answer your question: Yes get a rope immediately best $100 you can spend in wakeboarding. Period. Basically stretchy ropes are not only dangerous (the ropes can recoil. They can cause the handle to fly into someone in the boat.) but they are also terrible for wakeboarding.
Basically a non stretch rope stores the energy in the form of line tension this is what causes you to really pop off the wake. Stretchy ropes can actually make wakeboarding harder because when you go off the wake the stretchy rope will actually pull you forward. (same principal of line tension. only think of the non stretch as a steel cable and the stretchy line is like a rubber band.) Anyways, do a search for "why non stretch ropes" and read up, 'cause there are TONS of good threads on this... _________________ wakeboards

Dragon88, I actually did try to use the search function prior to making this post but I used the terms "Wakeboard Rope" which produced a large number of irrelevant results. Your suggested keywords work much better, thank you!
BTW, in surfing the web for information on this I found the following:
http://www.ehow.com/how_18513_gear-wakeboarding.html
This pages states “Wakeboard rope is different from water ski rope in that it is slightly more elastic…”
I expect that everyone here would agree that this is BS. _________________ Check out my wakeboarding links page. |

You can get bullet lines, similar to accurate, on ebay for great prices. I picked up one for $40. Earlier that day my friend got an accuate for about $90. The lines look and feel the same both have detachable sections. The cool thing about the accurate is that has a length lable on the sections so you know exactly how long your rope is. |
