My buddy bought a wakeskate last weekend out of the blue and we rode after boarding and loved it. I don't have any shoes though, but the riding was a blast. Now I'm wondering if it's essential to own wakeskate shoes...

The board we have has a soft grip all over the top, very foot friendly. Does anyone NOT use shoes? Do you reccomend having shoes if talking about a beginner? Thanks

If you are just playing around then you def don't need shoes. And you don't necessarily ever need shoes, but IMO I like the rigidity of the shoe to help me control the board. I ride a grip tape skate though, so I always wear shoes.

Nice, thanks CK. Yeah I'd hate to drag my toe-knuckles across some grip tape...

dirtdog, they help, just use some old shoes, they don't have to be skate shoes/wakeskate shoes. Just whatever old shoes you got that you don't wear anymore (or be prepared to not wear them everyday anymore), and drill some holes in the sole if they get heavy when they get wet. They help alot.

Everyone I know likes the feeling of shoes as opposed to barefoot, but we've never really used wakeskate specific shoes. I rock the nikes and most my friends ride either a pair of umbros or adidas Laughing

I ride barefoot all the time and have ridden griptape and foam and it really isn't as injury prone as you would think. I can fingerflip off the dock, shuvit, fakie bigspin, and 180 off the white kicker at tsr. Just suck it up. Wink
