|
|
i sometimes jump like my size and a half more, im 6"2 and half of that, off a wake thats probably 13" im not sure if thats how big it is, but it changes like every 5 seconds, but id like to know how high some people jump.
also i be4en wondering i been wakeboarding for like 4 months, and now i trying to do backflips and 360's, the backflips i land but i dont land standing up its kind of like a sitting down, scraping my ass and then i always fall like half a second after i land, im thinking its my pylon because its not one of those 6 foot high ones, its proly like 3 feet high, so im thinking its pulling me down not letting me get my hang time, and the 360's i truely suck, i always tend to land on my assor face, when i do one i start the rotation half in air half on wake, i dunno if i have enough air so far to do it in the air without starting off the wake, proly normal air i get would be 7 feet, just sometimes when the waves of the ocean hit my wake, i get like 10 feet maybee 11

| 10 or 11 ft off of a 13" wake, thats impressive. I'm thinking I get up around 10 ft maybe 12 of of a fairly large wake (2 -2 1/2ft) hitting it very hard. When I go big, I'm usually out in the flats about where the spray line is. If your getting close to 10 ft off of a 1 ft wake, man your doing a lot better than I was after riding for four months. Keep it up.

It's hard to gauge how many feet you actually jump. I usually measure with the camera or camcorder. The camera/filmer is generally in a relatively similar spot the whole time so depending on how much height you get you can measure it against the horizon in the background.

I've seen myself in pics, and although I haven't broken out the measureing tape to verify, I'm quite sure I get close to 10 ft. I'm not saying I jump that high on every single jump, but sometimes when I feel like going big and doing a long stalled grab, it's cool to have plenty of time in the air, so until you have seen me ride, dont tell me I'm full of sh-t.

| on a digital camera somewhere (no clue where), so I have no proof. since I have no proof, I will just say that I know I can jump atleast 6" off the water for now. I have no intrest in proving my abilities as I'm just out there to have fun. All I did was respond to the post. I know how big I can go, and what I can do so now I will graciously bow my head in shame and go riding this weekend. If I happen to get someone to get some pics I can post, then I'll throw them up here, but until then, you can just assume that I suck.

| It's not my camera, I was looking through the post (on another messageboard), but cant find them. It's not a big deal, I'll see if I can get some this weekend. Hey, does it count if I'm doing an invert, or is this only a straight jump grabbed or something. lol, we can have a big air contest and see who can take it the biggest and post pics on monday.

| im not saying i actually jump that high, its a guess on how high it is, i measure 6"2 and my buddies tell me im jumping far higher than my height, its also easy to tell when you have a small pylon and when you sometimes do a big ass jump you have to let it go cuz its breaking your skin off your hand. and im prety sure the wake is bigger than i said, its just a guess, im not being technical

Let's see a picture of ANYONE jumping 10-12' off the water. Preferably a side view.
You'll find some, maybe, but it will likely be off a double up and of a pro.

A quote from venezuelan,
i have a 18 foot boston whaler dauntless, and the trim tags dont work, so i dont know if i should wait and get them fixed ( am not sure if the wake will get bigger, will it?) or buy some of those bags ...
If you're getting anywhere near 10 feet off a small, unweighted I/O you should be pro.

where are you guys measuring from??? your head, or the bottom of your board, cus truthfully, you should be measuring from the bottom of your board. heres a little shot of me, it was taken from a video camera though so its not great quality. im not sure how high it is, and yes, i know, the rope looks short, but if you look at where i took off you can tell its not, it was arond 70ft. just a little bs shifty for y'all

well it shoudl be measured from the feet. I started riding seriously last may and i ride behind an mc x 2 so the wake is pretty much perfect and on just straight airs i get maybe 8 or 9 feet max and about that on tantrums, im measuring from the bottom of the board and based the measurement on the straight air on the length of my board. I just froze a 360 pic in the air right when the board was perpendicular to the boat and made a line with microsoft paint and then measured based on the fact that i know my board is 138 cm

| When I go into the flats behind my I/O..about 5 or 6. Behind a wake boat about 6-8. On my average airs behind my boat, Id say about 3-4 feet.

ya'll are funny if you think your jumps are actually getting that hi. . . . . . if you're confident, have a 6 ft friend stand in a tube. . . .you should clear his head by 4-6 ft so he shouldn't worry.. . . . . . Here's a big raley, I'm guessing I'm maybe 10ft and that's w/ my body fully extended!

| wake to wake, none of you are going 11 or 12+ feet up in the air from the head. raley, maybe. but not wake to wake. i would know because i pole vaulted for my school and got up to 11'6" and it's a whole lot higher than any one of you is getting at the HEAD. at the board, of course higher, but height should be counted either from the head or the torso.

ohio_wake_2008, you do know that the board is lower than the head unless you are inverted, right?

Ok, here's one I found from a early this year. I know, this one isn't 10 ft, but it's better than the one k-wood kid put up here. I'll try to get some better ones tomorrow.

I have to admit, I'm a little confused to. It sounds like your saying that you would be higher if you measured from the bottom of the board instead of the head.

now i got myself thinking...
if you are going for height, you don't really want to go inverted at aall. it's weird now that i am thinking about it a bunch now.
forget what i said and go on....

| When I do heel fronts, I take them very big, and I'm prolly higher on those than just a regular wake jump. Thats about the only one I go that high on, but my tantrums are way up there too.

| yea, the tanny's are big, on average prolly about like yours, but when I go for big ones (specially on Rich's wake) I take them really high. I'm getting the pop on the crows too, I started dialing that in and they are looking much better. You haven't seen me ride in what like 2 months. I've been riding a lot and concentrating on improvement instead of partying so much, and you know how I like to party. And your right, I will show you up next time we ride. The only thing you got on me now is the spins, so you better stick those this weekend in beaumont or you wont have a chance brotha, it's all good tho, I'm sure the scores will be close.

The highest air I have ever seen was (i think) Shapiro (sp?) on Higher Learning doing a shifty 360 off a double up, and I would guess that the bottom of his board was 10-12 feet of the water. I think the best way to measure is just to look at the lowest part of the person's body--might be feet, might be head (ralley). 10-12 feet consistently is hard to believe, but if you can do it, more power to you. We should be seeing you on espn2 soon huh?

| update - I was out last weekend, and was trying to go big just to see how high I was getting. the camera girl bailed on us, so I have no pics, but the guys in the boat told me I was getting around 8 or 9 ft in the air. This was on a smaller wake, but I'm not making any excuses, i might be going about the same height on a bigger wake, I dunno. I just wanted to let ya'll know what my findings were and that I'm not trying to lie about my ability, although it was a little lower than I first thought. Maybe off of a double up I could get up to around 10 or 12 ft, but that would be a struggle. I should get some pics from a competition this weekend, so I'll try to get those up here when I get em.

I'm not sure people in the boat are a good measure of height lol.
Someone needs to invent something you attach to the rope at the tower to measure the angle, (rope length would have to be known) to calculate height of the rope at the end. That would sell like hotcakes.
