Here it is
Bellmay 1
The history of the sport called Wakeboarding has developed into an extreme sport with the help of many key people like Tony Finn, Herb O’Brien, and Jimmy Redmon. Wakeboarding has evolved from sports like skiing and surfing since it’s beginnings in the summer of 1985.
The earliest documented history of wakeboarding is when a group of surfers were being towed into massive swells they couldn’t paddle into themselves. In the summer of 85’ a California surfer named Tony Finn got the idea to surfboard behind a boat while holding a ski rope. So Tony and his partner John Hamiliton started to develop and sell the skurfer (a surfboard and water ski hybrid) to the water ski crowd.
The skurfer turned like a surfboard on the wake of the boat. It brought images of a snowboarding or skateboarding style to mind a spectators mind. Riders could stand in any place on the board .To improve the skurfer Tony got a pair of windsurfing foot straps from his friends Mike and Mark Pascoe and drilled them into the skurfer. Simultaneously, down in, Texas Jimmy Redmon was doing the same thing. In 1990 the first tournament was televised on ESPN and gave the sport some attention. The problem with these boards was that they were extremely buoyant and required large amounts of energy to get up on in a deep-water start. The Redline design boards were lightweight, but lacked the durability to make it a good board.
Herb O’Brien, owner of H.O Sports, took interest in ski boarding (a name given to the sport of skurfing). He got together with some of the most talented surfboard makers in Hawaii and developed a new board called the Hyperlite Pro. This was the first
Bellmay 2
compression molded neutral buoyancy board, which allowed for easy deep-water starts, which meant anyone, could access the sport. This created a large boom in the popularity of Wakeboarding. It became the official name of the sport when the term Ski boarding died out.
There were some key features that were made possibly by compression molding. The boards became thinner allowing it to carve like a Slalom ski. The Phasers also gave the board softer landing after a wake jump and a quicker, looser feel when cutting into the wake. The first Hyperlites that were designed in 1990, they had more of a surfboard shape with the inclusion of a tip and a tail. As the sport grew so did the boards with the help of Jimmy Redmon in 1993 and his “twin tip” design. The boards had a symmetrical design and two tips on both ends allowing the rider to do the same trick in the regular or switch position.
In 1989 Jimmy Redmon founded the World Wakeboard Association (WWA). The WWA is responsible for the rules and regulations of wakeboarding competitions. In 1989 Jimmy Redmon founded the World Wakeboard Association (WWA). The WWA is responsible for the rules and regulations of wakeboarding competitions. In 1992, World Sports and Marketing began having Pro Wakeboard competitions, which gave riders a chance to compete professionally, and gave them exposure on ESPN and later ESPN2. In 1993 World Publications put out WakeBoarding Magazine (the sports first publication). In 1996 the X-Games showcased wakeboarding due to the help of Jimmy
Bellmay 3
Redmon. Then in 1998 two series where added, they were the Vans Triple Crown of Wakeboarding and the Wakeboarding World Cup.
In 2000, the format for tournaments was changed to include rails and ramps that give the style a street course feel. There are many Pro tournaments in the world but the most sought after titles are the Vans Triple Crown, the Pro Wakeboard Tour, and the Wakeboard World Cup. The three “founders” of the sport are still very involved with it. Tony Finn is the co-owner of liquid force wakeboards, the wakeboard camp, and does commentary for numerous events. Herb O’Brien now owns Hyperlite Manufacturer that has and still does dominate the wakeboard market. And Jimmy Redmon holds a position at Liquid Force, Jimmy Redmon continues to be the chief judge on the Pro Tour.
With the introduction of many Spin-off sports like wake skating and wake surfing it is very evident that wakeboarding will continue to grow as new innovations in technology of the sport are made. The history of the sport called Wakeboarding has developed an extreme sport with the help of many key people like Tony Finn, Herb O’Brien, And Jimmy Redmon, the events, and sports like skiing and surfing since it’s beginnings in the summer of 1985. |

Cool man. What grade are you in? 7th or 8th? That's fairly well written given your age. One piece of advice though. You probably shouldn't use the exact same sentence for both the first AND last sentence of a pretty short paper. Or any paper really. The idea is to find a slightly different way to convey the message to the reader that draws off of the body of the paper. _________________ Get Frugally Green!

Cool man! Nicely done.
I met Tony Finn once, back in the day at Cope & McPheters in San Jose. He gave me a great deal on my Skurfer Rage. Nice guy too. Kinda looked like the guy from "The Greatest American Hero" |

| raley190, Nice. We just had to do a research paper. Last year and 7th grade. Fortunately we could pick our topic, unfortunately it had to be on british history in 7th and american history in 8th. And it was a history and english grade. So if you failed it, you bombed 2 classes. But, fortunately, again, it is summer and right now, according to Robin Williams, I.D.G.R.A.!! (I dont give a Rat's ass, Patch Adams) Way to represent. |

I understand. The message has to be the same, but when you use the exact same sentance in a short paper like that, it just sounds kind of awkward. Maybe your teacher made you do that or something. I don't know. Just a suggestion. _________________ Get Frugally Green!

They probably just have to turn in notecards or something with all their sources instead of putting them at the end of the paper. But...you can't have work cited cards if you don't cite anything. _________________ Get Frugally Green!
