Preventing scratches on boat

I am tired of my friends putting scratches on the back of my boat when they are putting on the board. It happenes when they are sitting on the rear deck of the boat and have the board on my swim platform. I was thinking of putting some rectangle cut-out's of skateboard grip tape on the corners of my boat right above the swim platform where the scratches are appearing. I was wondering if anybody has done this, had this problem before, and how they prevented it from happening if they have the same problem. I don't want to put the grip tape on my boat if it is going to put some kind of unremovable adhesive on my gelcoat but I dont want any more scratches either. Any advise would be a lot of help. get a transom-guard, or protector....what ever you want to call it.

it's an extra piece of teak that attatches to your platform at the side towards the transom, right on top of the existing platform. It creates a ledge that the board steadies against when the rider is putting on the board. Or, make them put the board on in the water every time.....that will make them more conscious of your gel-coat...

do like the same as what mastercraft does on there xstars. They put a piece of teak ontop of the platform right up against the transom. that way boards hit that wood strip and not the transom..... here are some pics to show you what im talking about

Thanks for the input guys but it's a 2002 X-Star. It already came with the lip you guys are talking about but there are still times when the board comes off of the platform and scratches the gel coat. Any other suggestions?

astro-deck boat traction, or some eva rubber like it with adhesive on the back side....it's your only way besides making them put on the board in the water.

I feel for ya X star driver. My friends do that all the time. I tell them to please not slam there boards against the back of the boat. I don't have that transom protector because I have the fiberglass swim platform. The back of my boat looks bad. Sad

I've seen clear plastic plastic strips that stick directly onto the transom, they are thicker than just a normal sticker. When they get beat up, you just peal it off and stick a new one on. No harm done to your boat...But I would beat on your friends for doing that!

I don't see the difficulty in not slamming your board into the boat...plus, you'd think they would want to take better care of their boards too.

There are two REALLY easy solutions to your problem. The first is to have them stand facing the boat when they put the board on. If the board slides at all, it will most likely go away from the boat. If it doesn't go towards the transom your Teak World Transom Saver will stop it.

The second is to buy some Scotchcal film and apply it to the transom of the boat right above the Transom Saver. You can buy it from a number of sources under different brand names, but any 3M product will do the job.

We have the same problem and it is mostly newbies who tend the scratch up the boat, not just newbies though to be fair. We ended up using an adhesive backed rubber sheeting about 1/8" thick that goes right across the back of the boat. Doesnt look too bad and it does the job. We tried getting people to put the boards on ite the water but not everyone canmanage that, so we ended up going for the rubber.
