new boat...cant clear the wake

i used to have a 01 elite v drive air warrior and i could clear the wake really easily, but now with our 05 avalanche i cant clear it. i land right on top....what is the best way to gain speed, do i lean back or what? also, i can do a 180 switch heelside and switch toe side but i cant land one doing heelside 180...any tips? thanks

well, first use a progressive edge, here read this \/ , it will tell you everything you need to know to understyand the progressive edge.

that should get you going high enough and far enough, if that doesnt help, then shorten the rope until you can, then when you get better and start landing past the wake then lenghthen the rope again to the normal length. lots of riders do it...when i was learning i didn't think of that so i jsut told my dad to go really fast, and the wake became small enough for me to jump w2w, but the falls really hurt. so i recomend jsut shorten the rope.

alright, i tried doing it shorter, but i would over clear the wake and i felt that i couldnt carve out as far as i wanted to. i will just shorten it than. what is the general distance everyone uses?????

I'm not a pro but ive read that the pros use up to 85ft, this alloting them the maxium air time and distance to throw as big as a trick as possible. We started out at 55ft plus handle then we got better and we ride as 70ft with handle. Really just depends on you on how many feet to ride at. Hope this helps.......

i couldnt clear the wake off my new boat either, i told my dad to speed it up a bit, now he goes about 23 (used to go 19-20) and now im landing way out in the flats..

Jared A., how long is the rope you are useing? i use i think a 65 foot inclueing the handle, i can land in the flats on my boat no prob....but it also depends on the boat and how wide the wake gets at however many feet from the boat. so lengthen it a bit until you can clear the wakeonly, not land in the flats, then once you get better make it longer again.

our rope is 65 i think but i can clear it at 55, but 60 is to hard, off this wake i can get TONS of air but it just dosnt throw me far, its bugging me caus eon our old boat i could clear it easily. and we ride at about 22, any faster i feel that i can clear the wake easier but its just less air time.

that sounds good, i will give it a try!! its also hard for me to try not to jump when i hit the wake. i wish when i first started i had someone who could show me all the basic stratgies so i wouldnt have to be learning them now!

i went out today and practiced what you guys said, brought the boat to 23 and was clearing the wake almost everytime!!! thanks guys!
