I asked my mom if I could skip school on wed to go to a party my work is having at TSR. I've never skipped in my life, havn't missed school this year and she says no. I tell her I'm gonna do homework before the party but she still doesn't buy it. She said she's not gonna lie for me which I can understand. But I wake up this morning and she says, "you need to take my stuff by my school room" (she's a teacher) I ask why and she says she woke up late! Now I don't think that's a very good excuse. And she still won't let me go tomorrow! Do you think I should get to go? _________________ www.texasskiranch.com

I think that you should skip school..... I know, I'm condoning bad behavior. I think that everyone should skip at least ONCE their life time. Being that you have never skipped, go for it. Especially if you are a senior, Don't you all have a senior skip day that basiclly everyone partakes in??? I know that we did in highschool, a bunch now that I think about it. _________________ "What do you mean you're done for the night...Insomnia doesn't even open until 4. | Why does she feel like she has to lie for you? Tell them you have an appointment, because technically a party could be an appointment. So that's not lying. Also like B-rad said you have to skip at least once in your lifetime. |

Glad you see it my way. I'm only a Junior though. I told her this would be the only time. I'll have to do some more begging when I get home _________________ www.texasskiranch.com

I know but we have this stupid thing where you have to have a note from your parent to give to the office to "excuse" the absence. If it's unexcused I get 0's in all my classes that day and I have a test tomorrow and I'll fail the class if I get a 0 on it. Pisses me off. _________________ www.texasskiranch.com

It might even been considered a legitimate excuse since it is kind of work related...
On a side note on our Senior Ditch Day the school decided to crack done on us. I don't remember what they threatened us with, but then it became apparant that many students parents were going to excuse them. They then sent out a letter to our parents telling them how it was immoral/illegal and wrong to excuse us. Most people's parents still called in.

| What do people do when they go out of town? Is that an unexcused absence? We had the same rule at my school but the parents got to decide if it was excused or not. |

Well I think you can get a pre-arranged absence but you have to do that 2-days before. So I'm screwed I think. _________________ www.texasskiranch.com

I would take this approach:
You do well in school
You are responsible
You work
Your work provides you with a salary that consists of monitary payment and additional benefits, this party is one of the additional benefits. If you don't go you are not receiving full payment for the work you've performed. Tell her she doesn't have to lie for you, this is something that you worked for and should be rewarded for your efforts, it should be an excused absence.
Good Luck,
Nick

| just go to the party and go to school with a hangover. no one will care and if your sick enough you can go home early. my senior year of high school we'd take those big 44 ounce mugs you can get at the gas staion and make screw drivers to take to school. |

| Oh the party's tonight? I was thinkin it was tomorrow during school (as weird as a party in the middle of the day sounds). Yeah just do what derrick said. Be sick tomorrow morning. If your mom doesn't believe you eat some chocolate cookies with a lot of ketchup. That always made me sick. |

Along with skipping school once in your life you have to go to shcool with a hangover. You can make College or highschool, as long as you go at least once with a hangover. Some people, my self included, try to do this enough times to make up for the people that do not get this opportunity. Go to the party, have fun and be missreible the next day. It's kind of like work the day after a pay day! _________________ "What do you mean you're done for the night...Insomnia doesn't even open until 4. all you do is skip, then ask one one the people at the party to write a "doctor's note"(i know they will). then go and it will be an excused absence with the note. piece of cake holly does it for me all the time. or go half the day and you can be counted present for that part, then go to your "doctor's app."
good luck |

I show up on a regular basis (almost every Friday) to class hungover. Come in smelling like hard alcohol and look all out of it. Teachers just laugh a little as I stagger to the back of the class in pain. I've walked in on test I forgot about. In fact I did that last friday and did suprisingly well (B).
Heezey- I don't know if you can change your mom's mind. She has made a decision and breaking that may have profound consequences. I don't know your mom but I know my parents wouldn't have allowed any ditching to party when I was a Junior in HS. By my senior year I had an 18 year old waiver and could write my own excused notes so that was nice. _________________ If I agreed with you we would both be wrong. |

I'm guessing either Taylor has this covered or is not going to the party. If she already has a plan then "spend" the night at her place and skip together. Or be hung over together, whatever works. It sounds like you are not going to talk your mom into it. Might as well just go and then go to school "tired". _________________ "What do you mean you're done for the night...Insomnia doesn't even open until 4. i think your mom should let u go, it's a prearranged thing with work, not a group of friends deciding to go somewhere
At my school it's usualy better to skip as long as u go to first block because they don't notice. If me parents phone it is still counted as an uneexcused absence on my record. In BC it's illegal to take your kids out of school unless they are sick even if u are going on a trip. |

It's not a problem of being tired the the next day b/c I would definantly do that. But it's a party at TSR where we get to ride free from 11-3 tomorrow. And I need to get out of school to go. I might try the go home early "sick" thing. Thanks guys _________________ www.texasskiranch.com

| I'm not recommending that you should skip school for a party, but if I were you, I would either try to bargain with your mom and offer to do some additional chores or something like that, or argue that your teachers have an easy day planned and you wouldn't miss much anyway. School is more important than a work party, but if you aren't going to miss anything anyway, it would make more sense if you chose to skip school for it. |

| Well fine, school is more important to me. I'm just saying that you shouldn't skip if you are going to miss stuff like tests or other stuff that you can't make up. If you aren't missing anything, then it probably doesn't matter if you skip. I just don't recommend skipping. |

Way to bring down the mood here John. We are trying to get a nice, good student to skip school for her first time. Come on and stop trying to give her "logical" advice. Heezey, you NEED to skip, you WANT to skip. Go for it!!!! _________________ "What do you mean you're done for the night...Insomnia doesn't even open until 4.
