|

hey guys, I need some help on getting a decent wake on my boat right now. Im goint to get some fat sacs if weight helps. Also what about the RPM's My boat does not have a speedometer so I have to read the RPM gauge. What should I do, any pics of wakes of outboards would be great also!! _________________ Email: jordajon@berkeleyprep.org

Usually drive off the tacho anyway, just get up to speed and get the wake real nice, then keep those revs. It will change depending on the weight in the boat and the size of the rider and even wind... You have to be careful in an outboard, in our old one you could never put too much weight at the back because it will cover the air-intake on the engine and you'll never get it going. I would suggest 40/60% in the front/back and just add a little at a time building it up. How much weight depends on the size of hte boat and how much your engine can handle pushing out of the water... if its a little boat try water barrels, even 20L work well cause you can take them out and move them around ... make sure you have weight in the nose though cause the outboards already are pushing from the back and pulling the rider from the back and you dont want too much weight back there or your nose will go up and over... _________________ Riding

Yeah not too different to what we had. I would go the water barrells, three 20L on the back seat, two in the nose and a driver adn observer was all our little boat could handle. I shortenend the rope right up to where I cleared the wake nicely and the wake was nice and 'meaty'. Rode beautifully for what we had. Find your speed and ask the driver to note it, then whoever is driving you can let them know what works well for you. Speed is a btch to keep though with those little outboards! =p _________________ Riding

| You can tweak the wake by trimming the motor up just a little after the rider is up. this pushes the back of the boat into the water some more and makes the wake somewhat cleaner and bigger. |

ok man...like they said either add some fat sacs....or add water to your hull... Definetly experiment with your trim as it will help un crust your wake... If that makes sense lol... My family owns an outboard and I ride behind friends' outboards all the time. Be careful with adding weight. Aside from the air intake issue, on a lot of boats (mine included) the wiring and controls for the outboard pass through holes in the transom area which are relatively low on the waterline. You can imagine what might happen if those get submerged...
Sadly, the best thing you can do is to start saving for a new boat... sorry. |

I have a 20ft center console fishing boat(outboard) and we recently(in the last year) bought a "flying monkey bar" tower and installed it ourselves, also we have a 800lb fat sack in the back and the wake is still fairly small but inverts and spins are achievable. If you look back at what guys were throwing off the ski boats in the early 90's(check out retrospect) you'll see that a big wake isn't necessary it just makes you not work as hard. So weigh it down, trim it right, and suck it and huck it. Hunter _________________ www.soswakeboard.com
