i'm a brand new wakeboarder, looking advice for boards and bindings. My buddy who is advanced tells me to just go ahead and buy the 2005 byerly, he says you can outgrow boards really quick. I'm 6'3" 165 lbs, very athletic, but i just want to make sure i'm not going to buy a board so difficult i can't even learn on it. any opinions? thanks guys. also, i was thinking about a 140-143 in terms of a board, is that about right for my weight/height?

Board length of 140 or 143 should be good for you. I'm 6'2" 185lbs and ride a 140. As you'll probably read elsewhere, best thing to do is to demo a board from local shop before buying. Or, try out some of the boards of people you ride with if they'll let you. A new Byerly will run you a couple dollars, so you might want to make sure you like the way it feels before you buy it.

Demo as many boards as you can. If not, there are certainly some boards you'll want to stay away from... anything with an aggressive 3-stage rocker isn't ideal for beginners, because it will tend to be more inconsistent and difficult to control when you're learning.

Thanks for all your replies! It is all very useful information. I will stay away from the 3 stage rocker and look for a continuous. Also, my friend who is an advanced wakeboarder from Dallas say that the Byerly is more setup to be run in very smooth water. I am on a lake with decent wind and traffic, and conditions are usually somewhat choppy.
