Out to buy my own board, have a 'Freedom' to use. Trip was suggested. Good deal but same price as Oasis or Evo, slightly less than Balance or Omega - is 'classic' still a top choice or just a familiar name with a past?
Are the newer 'beginner' boards better?

that's hard to say. I'm torn with what to tell beginners. Generally the Omega and Evo are GREAT intermediate boards.
The Trip is still a good board with a classic shape but most of these boards are basically upgrades to the Trip. I think you'll be fine with the Evo or Omega for now and it will last you longer than the Trip.
There actually isn't a whole lot of difference between the Evo or Omega. If I were you I'd save some loot and go with the Evo. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

The Trip I got is SO much funner than the other boards I've ridden (all older) I can't imagine what the newest designs are like . ..
The Trip is so much faster I'm actually carving the outside turns rather than drifting back in. Having some nose-dive issues while edging but hope to work that out soon.
The Element bindings are soft and impact absorbing (the tongue could be bigger) and fit so much better than the older bindings as well.
In short - there may be tons of better boards now and I realize how much they vary and how new equipment can improve your ride.
I LOVE the Trip, I love squishy-footbed bindings, and this purchase was a wise one for me. |
