Mastercraft Speed Control (with MCX on X-2)

How good is this compared to perfect pass. We are by no means great wakeboarders, so we don't need tournament quality, but we want something that works and is easy to use.

Dealer is suggesting that we upgrade to MCX rather than install perfect pass on the base engine. Seems like a better deal since MCX comes with speed control, but wanted to know how well it works.

So far it's worked ok for us. We haven't really loaded the boat up yet though. It's better than our old system though. (didn't have one)

For the $1K or so you would be better off spending it on the upgraded engine. Better resale and more power. It works great for us on our X-2, before I go boarding I program in what speed I want. Then the wife pulls me up and as soon as the boat hits the speed marked the throttle doesn't go beyond it till you slow down. It holds the MPH it within a 1mph or so with the ballasts full and pulling a boarder. Plus with the MC cruise you get to retain the dual speedo's, the PP replaces one of the speedo's. The only real difference (from my understanding) between it an PP is that PP has memory for other riders and a couple of other bells and whistles.

With the fly by wire MCX motor and the mastercraft cruise once the speed control takes over the throttle lever has no effect on the motor until you pull it right back. It means you can't give the perfect pass a helping hand around corners & when setting up for double ups. Once you get used to it its probably fine but I much prefer the old system.

Question for Ralph - so with PP and a the drive by wire does it not cut off the throttle? Or is this just how PP works with the non drive by wire?

There is some confusion in the start about not being able to preset the speed but they clear that up later.

I was using the MC cc in a X-45 this weekend and it seemed straight forward and easy to use.
