What the heck oil filter do I use in this thing? I am anti dealership, so I'm not letting them do it for me. I have the Pennzoil filter # from the manual, but I can't find one at the local parts store. Does Fram or anybody make one that will fit? It's just a 350, so I would think there would be a hundred of them out there.

It's a Pennzoil PZ3, which is a standard chevy small block filter. Cross references to many other brands, the AC PF25 comes to mind.

Any auto parts store will have a cross-reference book.

My book says it is a 05001 (I think that's right), and the canister of the filter is shorter than the normal small block canister. I think I found one that might fit it...I guess I'll see tonight.

i've been thru the same thing on both of my boats...the filter is smaller than the current one, although the cross-reference # matches. It's no big deal in my opinion, because they filter is still performing as it should.

i've also heard to fill the new filter almost full before you put it on so that the engine isn't running 'dry' when the filter is filling up the first time you start it after changing the oil.
