Ive found a guy with a 1996 mastercraft prostar who is selling his boat which is a theft recovery ... it has no motor, no seats, no windshield,
also its a a direct drive and im thinking its pretty much just stripped (havent seen it yet) he is asking $3700 i was thinking with some good tender love and care and a few connections i could bring her back to life.
basically im asking do you guys think that this hull is worth $3700 and if not how much do you think it is worth.
Thanks
Kevin

I believe i seen that boat a while back so obviously no one has the balls to complet such a task. Even if you did come up spending $12,000 on the boat to restore it and it sale $14-15k, do you think it would be worth the labor?

If it is a Prostar 205, yes. And you wouldn't need to spend 12k to do it. Where'd you come up with that figure?

If it is a Prostar 190, keep searching...

I have a 93 205 direct drive. I love it. The wake is great and the boat is extremely reliable. A used 205 in good condition will sell around 15-17K depending on add-ons and location. Check out tmcowners.com and mymastercraft.com for interior and trim pieces.

Yeah well im turning 17 in june and mommy and daddy arent helping me out with this so even if it did take 12 k to restore its not happening. fortunatley ive had my own lawn mainteniance co for a few years now, and have some real good friends, one owns dixie carburator which will be able to to find a engine for a decent price and, the other has his own woodshop and custom body shop ( hes the guy who hooked me up with the rsx taillight conversion i put on my 94 integ) and will to be able to use all of his tools as long as i pay for materials and il help out around the shop too. i dont think there is a trailer and do you guys think its worth $3700? i was thinking of offering him like 3k cash on the table but still havent seen the boat yet so not sure. by the way thanks for the replys

Sounds like fun project if you have the coin and time. Being on a students budget sounds like it could take possibly a few years. I think you'd be better off finding an old inboard that acutally works. I know a guy that bought a 1980 Nautique in really nice shape for about $3000 recently. Do you have tow vehicle too? Have to take that in consideration also.

I think it'd take quite a bit to get it going again.
These are all guesstimates..

Engine- $2-6K
Tranny if it's gone - $1500
Trailer - 1000-3000
Interior-$1000++
Windshield-$200-$600

Then there's the stereo, board racks and whatever else is missing.. I wish they had junk yards for boats where you go pull stuff, that'd be dope.

Yeah i plan to have it a few years and just continually work on it. Towing shouldnt be a problem we got a work truck 93 GMC sierra with the towing package and i could always get some of my riding buddies to tow it also.
As for buying an older ski boat we are currently trying to sell our 1983 supra we have no regrets and learned a whole deal about boats with this and not to mention all the tricks ive learned behind it but it turned out to be one of those projects where u go to change the carpet or something and then end up doing stringers floor etc. so I just want to stay away from wood thats my biggest concern.
For the motor and tranny i know i can get hooked up through my friend for alot less and interior i plan on getting a fat seat and doing everything else myself in my friends woodshop.
By the way what do you guys think of the wake the prostars are putting out?
thanks
Kevin

If you think you can get it functioning in a timely manner and won't be w/o a boat for a while I'd be all over it w/your resources. You outta keep the old boat to use until you get the PS running unless you have other buddies w/boats.. Does it have a tower or open bow? Remember all those little parts add up along w/your time.

Post some pics of this thing if you can.

Yeah my boat is sold the guy is coming to pick it up today or within the next couple days. i have friends with some boats and hit rixen up but i called the guy last night and it comes to since it was a theft recovery and im guessing it has to do with insurance issues it is export only so it can only be registered in another state or something like that Sad oh well my search continues
