I have been trolling your forum for a few days trying to find some info and have come to this conclusion.
I am a bigger rider at 260lbs and want to buy a board/binding. I ski snowboard and waterski so naturally I want to add another hobby. I read in another post that there are guys 250-300lbs riding Motive 144's and very happy with it. I was debating on the Sol 141 or the Motive 144 but based on posts I have read I think I am leaning toward the Motive. Are the Spin bindings that come with the 2005 package decent or should I buy board and bindings seperate. Please keep in mind I will only be boarding about 10-15 days a year and want something that is easy to get up on for me and other noobs that I take to the lake, so I am not looking to go all out, plus I want this board to be something that my friends can use as well. Does anyone have any experience with the fit of the Spins? I have a 11.5 foot and the Standards go up to 11.5. I would prefer super snug to loose and sloppy but do not want painful. I live in Cleveland, Ohio and not real sure if ther are any shops to try this stuff on. I had planned to order over the web.
I tried boarding about 4 years ago and could not get up but I think it was due to the board I was on which was about 5-7 years old and very small as well as not really having any proper coaching on how to do it. I want to stay in the $300 range total for board and bindings.
Any advice would be appreciated and if you think I should consider any other boards or bindings I am all ears. |

Ok, the Spins bindings are a basically "one size fits many". They are good for starting out. That's what I had. You will be able to get your feet in there and pull the strings real hard to tighten down. You will find by the end of the summer, that keeping them snug on your feet may frustrate you. I got frustrated at popping out of them on not so rough spills. Since you have an 11.5 and I have 10, that size may be much better on your feet.
So for starting out, I think the motive is a great board and I think the spins will be just fine. My wife has mini Spins on her motive, and she likes them just fine. She went with minis because the top of the range for the mini was her size. Any larger and she would have been swimming in them. She thinks they are just snug enough.
Enjoy your new sport. It's an addiction! You'll love it! _________________ http://www.airtimewatersports.com

I've got a buddy same size, he just recently went from a 140 to a 144 and swears he'll never go down in size. I can see it when he rides too, he is just higher on the water. He has a cwb setup...so I cannot say much on that aspect. I'd start with a 144, especially if you are the one who is gonna own it. _________________ The horror...... the horror. |

FYI - Hyperlite re-addressed the big guys need for a big board this year with the ERA 147. All 200+lb riders need more surface area for the board to perform correctly. Otherwise, there is too much drag cutting to the wake. Here is a link, I hope it helps for you.

I gotta add- to see my friend at 250 lbs. sailing thru the air is amazing to watch. For such a big guy, he makes it look so graceful and has such a sick style. It's not just for small skinny people. _________________ The horror...... the horror. |

The motive 144 is a great board. I'm a bigger guy as well and bought the 144 with cheap bindings a few seasons ago and found it to be spot on. Feels really stable on the water and with the molded in fins holds an edge really well! Definitly feels like you are on the water rather than been dragged through it. I've recently ridden a 136 board and it definitly drags in the water more. Go for the motive, you won't regret it!
On the bindings front, I'd go with the Hyperlite state rather than the spins. State have a bit more adjustability and support for about $20-$40 more. |

I'm 220 pounds and bought a Motive 144 tail end of last year. It has a progressive rocker which means you will hit the pop every time and is big enough not to sink with my weight. I got some Liquid Force Transits which are really easy to get into and are super comfortable when I come down from big jumps. _________________ Wakeboarding is so Kool in Ireland! |

| Thanks for the replies I am going to go for the Motive because I found some deals on left over 04 models with Split bindings. I wear and 11.5 shoe should I go for the Std 6-11.5 or the XL 10-15.5? |
