| Well since today is the last day of the regular season and the playoffs start on Saturday, I thought I would start a thread. I think the playoffs should be interesting this year. Its still weird to not see the Blazers in there and then this year the Lakers. But its kinda cool to see teams like Chicago and Washington in there. I think the championship is up for grabs, there are several teams out there with a chance. If Duncan is healthy I like the Spurs, but out in the East I also like Detroit and Miami. Anyways what are everyone elses thoughts and picks? I haven't been watching as much NBA basketball as I normally do, just watching a lot of ESPN highlights and reading stuff on the net.

I know what you guys are thinking how the hell did the knicks not get in? I am thinking the same thing and a cant figure it out. Well i guess it doesnt help that there whole team is overpaid, doesnt play defense and would rather score them self then giving it to someone else.

| I am just thankful that the Lakers aren't in and we have to listen to several people on this sight who are constantly all over the Lakers Nuts. Maybe there will be some interesting discussion this year besides "Lakers Rule".

Sucks that Clevland didn't make it, but they (minus LeBron and Tractor) cracked down the stretch.

Kings had a nice showing last night. I'm hoping for a bid to the 2nd round. If they play tough they have a shot at more but the Kings are a rollercoaster team now.

what happened to cleveland? they were #5 seed a few weeks ago. and now, they're not even in the playoffs? that's a big ass slide!

if the heat and pistons meet, i don't think the heat can get past the pistons defense. they're really tough!

wanna funny thing to be thankful for.
if your kings (or sonics, or whoever you cheer for) won as much as the lakers did, you'd be talkin' smack as well.

jumalian, on Jan. 29th or so, it was:
Eastern Conference Standings:
1. Miami
2. Clevland
now THAT'S a big ass slide.
And Laker fans talking smack? They're allowed. When you win, you can talk.
BTW - what does everyone think about Phenix? Nash for MVP or Shaq?

You're only as good as your last season. This season puts the Lakers out of the smack talking category.

I like the team Phoenix has, they have a lot of talent and they play well together, I just don't know if they play good enough defense to win a championship.
My picks for the 1st round...
Western Conference
Phoenix over Memphis in 5
Dallas over Houston in 7 (I think this is going to be a great series, both of these teams are playing really well right now)
Sacramento over Seattle in 6
SA over Denver in 6 (This should also be an interesting series, but in the end I don't think Denver can handle SA)
Eastern Conference
Miami over New Jersey in 5 (NJ might be able to take it to 6 if Richard Jefferson comes back and is healthy enough to be a decent contributer)
Washington over Chicago in 6 (This should be a fun series, both of these teams are a lot of fun to watch)
Boston over Indiana in 6
Detroit over Philly in 6

which is why there were no smack talking....except those that were talking about how glad they were that the lakers aren't in the playoffs. oh well, the ones cheering are usually the ones whose teams were knocked out by the lakers at one time or another!
i haven't seen the brackets, but is there a chance that phoenix could meet san antonio in the western finals? if so, that's gonna be a good series.

Actually, I wouldn't be talking smack. I had enough success in athletics that I learned how to win graciously. In my experience the people that talk smack about spectator sports are the individuals who have either been unsuccessful in athletics and are trying to live through somebody else's success or they have the dreaded "short man's complex". Obviously there are exceptions to these two generalizations as some people unfortunately weren't raised to respect others.
Smack talking in the heat of an athletic contest to me is a perfectly acceptable way to get into someone's head. However, when the contest is done whether you have won or lost you should be able to maintain a high degree of decorum.

i don't care about the playoffs this year, but next year when the Golden State Warriors are in they are gonna kill........B Diddy (Baron Davis) has come to the Bay and pushed us over the top in turning around our franchise......J Rich is gonna be an all-star as well next year.........and when we are going deep into the playoffs next year and Gilbert Arenas (and Washington) goes home in the first round, he's gonna feel hella lame that he didn't re-sign with the warriors (maybe not because hes $60 million richer).........but yeah, Warriors next year baby!!! And this time I actually mean it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jolson, although i agree w/ a portion of your post, damn you take things way too seriously. smack talkin' in here about our teams is all in good fun dude.
btw, i too have had success in athletics. and yes, after each game, i say "great game" to our opponents. also, if an opponent makes a great play, pass or shot, i let 'em know.
either way, thanks for your conclusion of those you've never met.

On a non-playoff related note, Rome is talking about the possibility of LA trying to get Jackson back....

jumalian, I know I know.
I don't really want Jackson back at this point as he is not the solution to the problem.

Jeez, it's playoffs already? I barely got to watch any basketball this season. Grad school sucks!
Hopefully Sac's playin' well minus Webb, but I haven't gotten to watch any of their games since he got traded.

| I have heard a lot of rumors about Phil Jackson coaching again. They were talking about Cleveland trying to get him and awhile back it was the Blazers. I personally don't think he is going to coach either of those teams though. I wonder if he will even come back and coach, it will be interesting to see if he does.

WOW that was a well thought out and wonderfully written opinion, but where is the defense OHHHHHHHHHHHHH thats right its in Detroit don't make unsubstaniated opinion. WAKE PIMP has it right under the radar and the best defense around, another years experience and offensivley more balanced than last year.

Good thinking itch. I think it's funny how you hardly hear ANYTHING about the pistons on sportscenter. The NBA is so obsessed with the "superstars" it makes me sick. Detroit didn't win 10 straight at the end of the season for nothing, IMO we have the best bench in the NBA. And not one starter is in the top 15. Well rounded team??? I think so...

wakrider07, here ... http://www.news-record.com/sports/local/bkbtraining_041305.htm
First game is in 15 minutes, I'm getting excited ... If philly can push it to 6 games, I'm happy. I don't think Detriot is as good as last year. Last year, Big Ben was averaging 9.5, 12.4 and 3.04 .. this year, his points and rebounds are about the same, but his BPG is down to 2.38, which is 100 less blocks per game. Although their D is still locktight, I don't think this year is their year.
And if the AIs heat up, they could be a dangerous team (along with Sammy D, raised in Canada ).
Anyways, I'm out to watch the games.

i like the suns this year, they are a lot of fun to watch.
the spurs will do well if they can stay healthy.
even tho i dont like the pacers, i'd like to see them do well cus reggie has definitely earned it.
i want to see the heat play the pistons i think that would be a great series.
most of the 1st round series are going to be really interesting, this is gonna a good year in the playoffs.
