Ok well I'm new to these forums and I plan to start my first season of wakeboarding this summer. I have lots of question so here they are. My boat is a 18" doral I/O but im not 100% sure on the horsepower. Will this boat be sufficient to get really good? Will I need a tower or can I learn alot without one? I was thinking of buying a hyperlite state board for 400 cdn but the bindings are another 300 anyone know where i can get cheap bindings of have a better suggestion for a board to buy ( the store has no package deal) or a good online store? I live the Toronto area and my cottage is in Gravenhurst.

Thanks in advance

Mike

A higher tow point will always help be it a tower or pylon. You may want to and some weight to your boat and play with the trim to create a better wake. If you and weight I would suggest a "ski" prop, they are stonger and will help your boat out of the hole better. I've heard a lot of good things about the State, check ebay for bindings (but first find what you like and what fits you well then look for that particular type). Finally make sure you have a zero stretch rope, probably the best $100 you can spend in wakeboarding.

you can learn alot of basic stuff without a tower , such as surface tricks , grabs, 180's and 360's , just mess around with the trim like jryoung said. a tower would be a nice investment on down the road so you can get the hang time you need to perform more advanced spins and inverts. definately ebay for bindings , theres always something new everyday. good luck.

Don't worry about a tower you can have a great time without one. Check around some local shops im sure there is a few around your area they might have some used bindings for sale that are pretty decent.

if you're just starting out I would get some bindings on ebay for < $100. You don't need a tower to do much of anything. It helps when you're working on inverts and higher spins but that will probably take you 2-3 years to get to that point. Watch the old wakeboarding videos (hit it) to see the crazy stuff they could do before towers even existed.

I would also recomend investing in a non-stretch rope. I found one on ebay 2 years ago for $75 with a 15" handle. Works great to this day.

Yeah if u are just getting into the sport, then your setup will be just fine for u. It will be my 3rd season and im just now going to build a tower. So i would just wait on the tower you will be able to advance quite a bit without it. As for the board and bindings, unless you really plan on boarding alot especially the next couple of years, then i would just go for more basic stuff. I started out with a CWB Nirvana, for around 200$, and learned tons. But then again better equipment can help u progress faster so its really up to u. Gl with it all

You definitely don't need a tower. Plenty of people on here have learned spins and inverts without a tower.

If you're looking for a cheaper pair of bindings. I've got these for sale that I can send you.

Towers are actually a burden. They're just a marketing scheme by the people in the industry. The optimal setup would be an outboard or I/O with a deep V hull. A stretchy ski rope is more than you need. I actually just bought a 55 foot piece of hemp rope and tied a dowel at the end for my handle. I just use my snowboard for a wakeboard, it works better than any "real" wakeboard.
