I know it has been asked before, but I need feedback for my situation. In the last two years I have torn my PCL, MCL, tibial head, and fibula head wakeboarding. I know, I know someone will say "dude you better give it up'...or you must suck." I won't quit and yes I suck. I am 5'9" and about 195 pounds (insert porker joke here) and ride a ERA 135. Does anyone think that I should increase the board length to help soften the landings and take some pressure off of my knees? I read an article in wakeboarding mag by Kyle Schmidt that talked about board size and it got me thinking that maybe my board is too short.

El Pres-
I'm 5'10" 180 and have been riding a Premier 135 ever since I started wakeboarding.... (Same as the ERA). I tore my ACL last year and went under the knife. This year, from some advice from a friend sponsored by CWB, I decided to purchase the 05' Absolute Platinum 142. All I can say is it is a F*ing unbelieveable diffence on the landings....so soft.. and the pop is amazing. I think if you demo some larger boards, you wont be disappointed. And you will probably go ahead and put that ERA in the Classifieds.....Just my 2 pennies...... Wink

You should get a longer board. I am 5'10" 190 and ride an absolut 141 and it is perfect for me. Like trammill said the landings are super soft and pop is unreal.

I'd recomend a larger board also. I'd go 140 and up.

I'm 5'11 and 210lbs I ride a LF Team 139. Landings are soft and this board rocks!

I won't go any smaller than this. Although if I were you I'd get a longer board!

I'm 5-11, 178 and ride a Premier 141. You should definately upgrade to a larger board - but I doubt the size of your board is the reason for your injuries.

I would also recommend that you lose some weight and increase your core strength and balance - not to be an A-hole, but you could probably stand to lose 10-15, and so could I.

You should be ok on a 142. I wouldn't recomend going smaller or you will have to increase your speed to sit at the same height in the water. And with increased speeds comes harder falls and a smaller wake.

6'1(or 2) - 175 and I'm on a 136. Thinking about getting a bigger board - used to be on a 140 and liked it quite a bit.

Check the CWB line, they have the softest landings of any manufacturer. They use a large Center Spine & it really helps. Follow Trammill's advice & get an Absolute, you will not be disappointed.

I'm thinking about the Transcend 138 but I'm 6'1" 184. It says it only goes up to 175 but I like it. I'm not happy w/ the length on my Tattoo right now is why I want to go smaller. What do you think?

Yes, a pro-big board thread! In 99 I went from a Super Squirt (128) to a Project (142). Since then I haven't gone below 140 and I'm only about a buck fifty. Unless you're spinning 7s there's no reason to ride short, IMO.

they are size recommendations not strict rules. ride what you like. what do heavy guys do when they want to wakeskate? the biggest you can really go is a 116. it doesnt matter tho. its not like it wont work if its not the reccomended size its just different. i weigh 150 and switch off between a 141 and 128.
